“Nice Meal & also Dog friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

Our B&B owners recommended here as it was dog friendly. There are 2 dog friendly pubs on the canalside, the Bothy & the Lock Inn (which we did not try).

I had the Pate starter which was good. My main was Chicken with Haggis which was first class. Come here hungry as the portions are ample.

I tried a couple of the guest real ales which were pretty good.

We came here the following evening for a drink which we took outside overlooking the canal & locks.

Staff were friendly & efficient.

Reasonably priced.

“Efficient service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2014

Stopped in for lunch with family whilst on holiday. Lovely food, although quite a basic lunchtime 'pub' type of menu. Reasonable prices, clean seating areas and cosy pub area. Although we enjoyed two visits whilst in Fort Augustus, I couldn't help but notice how 'efficient' the staff were, but not particularly friendly........I live in and love Scotland, and as someone who works in customer service felt that they could have been far more friendly and accommodating to their tourist customers. Also, the food seemed to stop at 2pm, we watched numerous customers turned away..... The upstairs toilets were a bit of a shock, they certainly don't match the downstairs, like something out of the dark ages, I dread to think what the tourists must think! This seems like quite a critical review, it's not meant to be, the food was good and I'm sure you will enjoy the visit. The other detail is really for the benefit of the owners, you have a pretty captive audience over the summer, it could be so much better.

“"Faultless in every way"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2014

As per our previous reviews about The Bothy, we have just returned from another family break in the lovely village of Fort Augustus and have on every visit to The Bothy found both the food and also the service received to be of the highest standard. The food! We sampled many items from the menu including starters, main courses, and sweets which were well presented and tasted lovely. The Service!! Waiting staff were to a person most attentive even at their most busy times nothing was to much trouble for them and on every visit we were given a very warm welcome by all without a Grump! or Moan! Just one last point when a microwave has finished cooking food there is shall I say a Ding Ding!!!! Sound. On each of our visits I can honestly say that we never heard a Ding! Ding!!! Once which I would assume means that all food is cooked fresh to order which ours certainly was.

“Emmmmmmm”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

Place looks lovely from the outside ... Inside well! The menu states courteous service with I presume the emphasis on CURT, unpleasant staff and very obviously microwaved food. Staff trying to turn tables as quickly as possible make you feel unwanted ... Here's your food, eat, get out... Felt sorry for the two customers who were getting whispered about by two staff members in front of a packed cafe didn't try to hide the fact. They found some of the PAYING customers very amusing would never go back.

“WOW huge fish and chips!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

Staff look grumpy but are actually really lovely!
The beer is good and the food is amazing and very well priced for the amount you get.
Plus they are willing to change and adapt the menu if you have specific choices.
We can recommend the fish and chips as it was more like WHALE and chips! and the batter was really light.
