Owner description: Nessie, the creature supposedly inhabiting Scotland's mysterious Loch Ness, is undoubtedly one of the most well-known monsters in the world. Sightings started popping up in the late 19th century and ever since, Nessie has held the world's attention and the myth has refused to die. Visitors wishing to learn more about the legends surrounding Loch Ness can do so at Nessieland Castle Monster Centre in Drumnadrochit. While this miniature theme park is aimed at children, it offers plenty of educational displays. There are lots of newspaper clippings reporting sightings, grainy photographs and display panels explaining the mystery of the Loch Ness Monster. A multilingual documentary takes visitors on the hunt for Nessie and not only shows eyewitness accounts, but also underwater searches that have been taking place since the 1970s. Whether you end up being a believer or not, Nessieland offers a lot of fun. Kids especially enjoy the supposedly life-sized Nessie model that can be ridden, the large adventure playground and the caves. Of course, there is also a gift shop where the corresponding Nessie memorabilia can be purchased.

£15 in for a family isn't a fortune & the kids enjoyed mucking about with the Nessie models & snakes in 'Nessies Cave' but it is definitely not for adults & there is a strange plasticky smell which is quite overpowering! There was a playground outside which looked quite good but we were running late for a boat trip & didn't try it out. Gift shop is pretty good as well. All in all, it's not a bad way to kill half an hour if you have a few under 10s to please :)

Thank you for taking time to write us a review and for your nice comments. We are pleased your children enjoyed themselves. Thanks for the comments about needing more for adults, there are plans afoot to add material over the winter so we will think about what it should include. We are glad you all enjoyed your visit.

“IDEAL VISIT FOR OUR GUESTS”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

Recently our friends from the Pacific North West came over to visit us and high on their agenda was a trip to the area of Loch Ness to find out about the 'monster saga'. They were not disappointed. A new presentation, we gleaned, told us about the history of the Loch from St. Columba's apparent sighting of Nessie right up to a recent encounter by a guy called 'skipper George' who organises boat trips from the Nessieland campus. All in all this was a great experience with piles of story-boards and low lighting in a cavern-type area with a huge Nessie - the monster as known locally - who towers right up to the roof. The children were excited, the adults were informed and we saw an albeit short film detailing reports about the various people who had 'seen' Nessie over the years. A must on the tourist trail in this area. Add to that a play area for the children, a shop with a lot of goodies and a much enjoyed cafe and cakes to finish made for a great afternoon.

A wonderful day out for the family - top marks to the girls for showing us around the enormous new monster and the cinema before directing us to much needed coffee and cakes ! This was our first time in the area to find out what's going on but it won't be our last. Would recommend it to all our friends. The large cavern was itself extremely interesting and full of Nessie memorabilia, tales of the famous sightings we've all heard of, and stories about everyone from John Cobb and his water speed attempt to Peter Scott and his dalliance with the Nessie legend.

The £15 for a family ticket was good value for a family. It was an interesting and informative experience. We were lucky with the weather as our younger children enjoyed the adventure playground. Nessie's Cave was the most interesting for our two older children. The information displayed on the walls appealed to us most. We didn't visit the cinema as the weather was too good.
