Review of Nessieland

Owner description: Nessie, the creature supposedly inhabiting Scotland's mysterious Loch Ness, is undoubtedly one of the most well-known monsters in the world. Sightings started popping up in the late 19th century and ever since, Nessie has held the world's attention and the myth has refused to die. Visitors wishing to learn more about the legends surrounding Loch Ness can do so at Nessieland Castle Monster Centre in Drumnadrochit. While this miniature theme park is aimed at children, it offers plenty of educational displays. There are lots of newspaper clippings reporting sightings, grainy photographs and display panels explaining the mystery of the Loch Ness Monster. A multilingual documentary takes visitors on the hunt for Nessie and not only shows eyewitness accounts, but also underwater searches that have been taking place since the 1970s. Whether you end up being a believer or not, Nessieland offers a lot of fun. Kids especially enjoy the supposedly life-sized Nessie model that can be ridden, the large adventure playground and the caves. Of course, there is also a gift shop where the corresponding Nessie memorabilia can be purchased.

It's about the size of my livingroom. The photos are all transposed with awful cartoon like Nessie characters. Complete waste of money. Go to the Loch Ness experience instead.

“Waste of money”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

This place is a rip off. I do not usually write scathing reviews but this place offers nothing in the way of experience and is purely there to make money from the whole Loch Ness thing. There is nothing of interest inside; a few display borads and a video running on a loop with some nessies to climb on. The gift shop is overpriced. We visited the Loch Ness exhibition centre also which does try to do something interesting and different but this place is a complete waste of money (£15 for a faimly). Don't bother.

“The worst part of our trip. Awful experience.”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

An awful, awful experience. Dirty, boring and expensive. Haven't felt so ripped off for a long time. The man who charged admission couldn't be found for us to ask for a refund of our £12. I think we were lucky to escape without catching an illness it was that filthy and damp. We just couldn't believe just how bad the place was!! Do NOT recommend. I was embarrassed as a Scot to think of foreign tourists coming over to find this kind of 'attraction' exhists here in Scotland. If you do visit be sure and take a gas mask with you as once the terrible stink of the exhibition gets into your nose it stays with you for a couple of hours at least. We now call it Smellyland.

“Nothing that interested my daughter at all”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Parking was easy. Giant plastic nessie outside to allow for some photos, once inside - paid my £5 per person to get into the exhibition. Museum like with lots of information but nothing that would interest the kids at all. The film shown was ok...but nothing new. I drove specifically to go this and shouldnt have bothered.

I felt compelled to write this for two reasons. The greeting afforded to us by, i think, the owner, was unbelievably rude. Maybe the fact that his overpriced shop was empty led to certain level of frustration but. Secondly and prior to this i bought the worst cafe latte i have ever tasted which took about 30 minutes to make. Based on both of these instances we decided not to go near the actual exhibition and went down the road to the other one. Reading the reviews above / below sounds like a monstrously good move on our part
