Owner description: An atmospheric ruin overlooking the dark waters of Loch Ness, this dramatic castle has a long and bloody history. Once one of Scotland's mightiest strongholds, Urquhart's strategic location gave it a key role in the Scottish battle for independence. It came under the control of Robert the Bruce before a 150-year power struggle between the Stewart dynasty and the MacDonald Lords of the Isles.

A Great place to visit for the history of the area, and to see a nice historic site.

Plenty of information, great views of Loch Ness and great picture possibilities to have.

Reasonably priced entrance. There is a video show and possibly tours included.

“so worth a visit”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

What a beautiful and interesting place this is. The first thing you must do is watch the short movie on the history of the castle before you go down into it, the ending of the movie is great. There is a short walk down to the castle which is positioned right on the edge of Loch Ness breath taking views. The staff where so helpful and full of so much knowledge and they all are very passionate about the castle which was excellent. you can walk around the ruins freely and unlike some old castles you can walk up the tower walk into old rooms ect. There are information signs everywhere with the history of the segment you are looking at. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit here, there is a café in the gift shop which have the best scones at a good price. Great day out.
