We were very much looking forward to smoo cave having read a lot about it. It didn't disappoint. We missed the boat tour but actually looking in, i think i would have been too claustrophobic! We walked down the steep stairs to the cave and explored on our own. You can look in to the water fall area and it's lovely. We were the only ones in there so it was a bit eerie there's a few signs to read about it's history in the car park too. Great views out to the water.

Pass this on our way round and its one not to miss plus its free just to go in. Stunning views not only at the caves but the surrounding areas. Once inside the cave you can also pay £5 to go further into the cave towards the waterfall on a boat. Once you have seen the cave take the right hand route up to even more stunning views, this is a bit of a climb but worth it.

The cave is just off the side of the main road so it's easy to find and has a small parking lot. You do have to go down quite a few steps to get to it but it was worth it. You get to go into the first portion of the cave for free and it is a huge opening which is quite impressive. You can also go back into a second area where there is a waterfall but if you want to go further in you have to sign up for a boat trip which is cheap but warns that you might get wet.

What a piece of hostory/geology/archaeology. And if the man is there with the wee boat - it's a must - he is very funny - if you have that sense of humour..... sturdy shoes required and wouldn't suggest for under 5's or unsteady on their feet, simply as there is a vertical, short metal ladder down into the boat.
Wonderful place though and certainly worth stopping off or even making the effort to get to it.

It's a hike down many stairs to reach this ancient cave, well worth the effort, but you must have good knees.
