“Truly Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

Links House reflects the Spirit of Dornoch and the Highlands like no other. The warmth of welcome and professionalism shown by the Manager and restaurant manager are matched by the attention to detail and appointment of the rooms and the building. Though we were first time visitors and only booked for Sunday lunch we were greeted at the door by name and made to feel like it was our home for the afternoon. A superb set menu accompanied by a very nice house wine with each course made for a magical afternoon. Seasonal and local ingredients displayed the passion that was evident in all aspects of the House and hosts. A show round of the house after lunch made it very tempting to cancel our return to London and book a room for the night or nights. We are looking forward to returning to this amazing retreat at the earliest opportunity and for longer the next time.

Rather than rush from place to place (with its Bataan like routine of wake-up, pack bags, check-out, drive, play world class golf, check-in, unpack, sleep in unfamiliar surroundings, repeat….) we decided to make this trip a truly memorable experience. Therefore we used Links House as our home base for a full week of Scottish Highlands adventure.

The hotel itself is extraordinary. The furnishings, antiques, and artwork have been carefully selected to create a feeling that is classic and understated in its elegance. The in-house chef’s meals were creative and delicious and incorporated unique local ingredients. But the most unique aspect of our trip were the experiences we enjoyed that would have been missed had we tried to rush off to another location.

As an example, Beverly, the resident manager of Links House, arranged an afternoon of fly fishing for salmon (after we had played 18 holes at Royal Dornoch in the morning). Or the time we hopped on Links House loaner bicycles to peddle into Dornoch to spend a few hours casting for rainbow trout at the Dornoch Lochans. Or the driver that was arranged for us to visit Dunrobin Castle, an historic, aristocratic family castle that dates to the 1300s. Or even the tee times arranged at Brora Golf Club, a local club which Beverly insisted would provide a memorable experience. She was right. Scottish links golf in its finest form with a clubhouse jammed with locals enjoying a pint – not a bus of tourists to be seen for miles! Castle Stuart and Royal Dornoch are world-class and destination worthy – but there are local gems that should be experienced.

A stay at Links House enables you to truly immerse yourself in the Scottish Highlands. I look forward to my next visit – maybe we’ll add stag stalking to the agenda!

My partner and I Dined here a couple of months ago, not long after they opened.

I'm not overly keen on the set menu, everyone dining together scenario but we really enjoyed our evening.

Michael, Restaurant Manager, is the consumate professional and puts you at ease immediately.

Darren, the chef, has skills above his years and portrays that on the plate.

The Links House is a special occasion destination but i do suggest you visit at least once.

They say time slows down in the Scottish Highlands. We just spent a fabulous week at the Links House in Dornoch. It's a special place and we felt very much like we were in our own home. Our days were busy with golf, fishing and site seeing, but we never had that harried feeling.
We statrted our mornings over a leisurely breakfast, knowing that Royal Dornoch's first Tee was just a half wedge from our table! In the evenings we were greeted with cocktails in the drawing room, followed by memorable dinners thanks to chef Darren. Links House is the only way to take it slow in the Highlands!

I just returned from Scotland last week after playing Royal Dornoch and staying at the Links House. The Links House is just spectacular. It is a smaller hotel with 8 or so very nicely appointed rooms in a lovely manor house steps from the first tee. Perfect for our group of 8 experienced golfers. We have traveled all over on our annual UK trip for over 20 years and I don't think we ever stayed in a nicer place. Beverley the manager did an awesome job making our trip special and feeling like we were at home. We all agreed Royal Dornock is one of our top five courses we have played-- on par with Royal County Down, the old Course and a few others. Links House is truly special.

Links House is a first class travel experience. Impeccable attention to detail in every facet: rooms, food, drink, service, amenities, etc. Set in an absolutely perfect location for playing Royal Dornoch, Links House added to an already amazing day. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. It has the warm feel of a beautiful home, highlighted by commissioned artwork, personalized tartan fabrics blended into the decor, and a crackling fire in the dining room. Truly outstanding.

The Links House is a spectacular, newly open conversion of a historic and charming home in Dornoch, Scotland. 8 finely bedrooms (can accomodate 16) decorated with Scottish antiques with the finest beds, linens and furnishings of any private estate home. Incredible fine dining - feels like your own private chef. Situated the distance of a long putt from the first tee of Royal Dornoch Golf Club (ranked #4 among all U.K. and Irish course), the world class accomodations and golf is reason enough to come. But the true enjoyment is taking in all the Scottish Highlands has to offer. We fly fished and caught large Atlantic Salmon led by terrific local guides. Toured Dunrobie Castle. Rode bikes in town and along the countryside. Visited charming nearby towns.
