“very clean and tidy”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

First time at this site and was not disappointed. caravan located at the end of the row right next to the beach. Long walks along the beach were ideal as we went in may and the weather was great. You can walk into Dornoch along a foot path that takes you alongside dornoch golf club. Didnt use restaurant on site, mainly ate out, while visiting various towns and sights. Can recommend local chinese in dornoch.Fighter jets from local raf stations practice low level flying over the sea next to caravan, which is very good to watch.

We stayed at Grannie's Heilan Hame for the first week in May. We booked the Lorne caravan as it had double glazing and central heating. Caravan was still cold at night ok though if you in bed with duvet. Due to the air vents in the caravan if it is windy at night can create a draft for baby in travel cot. Our caravan N5 was clean and tidy on arrival and there was plenty of space for the four of us. We took our own travel cot so I can not comment on what park's cots are like. There was plenty space to put cot in bedroom and loads of storage space. Our caravan was right on the beach and far enough away from main complex not to really hear the noise from the night disco's. If you are asking for caravan next to the beach you may want to consider how close it is to main complex as on a Saturday night I could hear the music and people talking on mic in our caravan and it was pretty much as far away as you could be (not enough to keep you awake or anything) if you had closer caravan may have been a pain. I have a 5 year old who went to disco's at night and loved them. The kids club during the day was not really his thing as they insist on using mic's for it and when he went there was only 3 kids so he found it strange why the lady was taking to him through mic. The swimming pool has to be booked in advance due to layout of pool if there is two families of young children in at same time it felt crowded so think it would be too much if it was being used by 30 people (max capacity). When we were there the changing rooms were being decorated which meant there was only one set in use. There are only two cubicles in the ladies changing room the rest is open group changing so again if you have two families of 4 in the changing rooms feels crampt so think it might be bit much if pool used to max occupancy even with other changing rooms open. Min golf is 50p per person and good fun, course is not too hard and it looks pretty new. The beach is stunning. My son and hubbie went fishing to the loch in Dornoch you can hire rods etc there. We visited falls of shin and would say it's worth the journey even without the fish jumping out of the water. The shop on the site is very expensive but does have a great deal of choice. There is however a tesco and lidl in thain which is 20 minutes drive away. The take away on site does not have a great deal of choice. We did not try restaurant on park. I can recommend the chinese takeaway in dornoch as seen in another post. Dornoch is lovely village and about 5 mins away in car it is possible to walk but probably not safe with young kids as you have to walk on the road not sure if there is a costal path. Harry Gow in Dornoch (next to the co-op) is great for a reasonably priced lunch does all sorts from panini's to pies. And if your feeling like a treat their ice cream sundies are fabulous. We did look at the buttery finger cafe but a bit too expensive for us but seemed popular. If your looking for a relaxing break and you have young kids this park is perfect. I am not sure if it would be the park for me during school holidays but that's a personal choice.

Room Tip: Having a caravan on the beach makes on the difference. But do consider location to main complex and...

First ever time at Grannies Heilan Hame, during school Easter Holidays, having booked direct with Parkdean, which was simple and straightforward, we were looking forward to spending some quality time away in this lovely part of Scotland. Initially we saw the site was fully booked for this busy period, and we wondered if the place would be swamped but far from it. Our caravan was clean and tidy, and well appointed even if it was a few years old everything worked and ample space for everyone. We had one slight problem with the gas which after speaking to the reception, had a maintenance guy on site within 30 minutes. Entertainment was first class and the Parkdean Troupers worked their socks off every night keeping everyone in the holiday spirit. Obviously the number one attraction of this site is it's location and seeing Dolphins from the beach at Embo, is something to behold. The costcutter shop on site, is well stocked and the bar/s whilst perhaps slightly lacking in staff numbers at times is well presented and reasonably priced. The entertainment finished each night at 11.00pm and the site was very quiet considering the fact it was full. Ample car parking and plenty to see and do, can recommend the Chinese Take Away in Dornoch (5 mins away) which has a good menu and they do deliver to the site as well. This was our first visit to Grannies, and we will definitely return, and cannot recommend this highly enough on value for money, the stunning scenery and the entertainment provided, with obvious continued investment this will be on our holiday map for years to come

We decided on this park as we had yet to explore this part of Scotland. The park was lovely and clean as was the caravan. More than anything we used it as a base to explore the surrounding area. The entertainment was what you would expect from a caravan park, and the food pretty much the same. The beach is fantastic and the water resembled something from the Carribean with its turquoise colour and bright sand, we walked from Embo to Dornoch along the coastal path and it was worth it, a lovelt way to spend the day if you have the time!!

Park had everything you need for a break away, but area so beautiful you need to get out and explore. Don't miss out on Tain pottery or glenmorangie distillery. We had our 2 dogs with us and the walks for them were fantastic. The beach is so breathtaking it was like something out a movie. Great photo opportunities early morning of sunrise. Fantastic spot for a holiday. Thanks parked an.

Came back yesterday and had a fab time with my two children. Staff extremely friendly and jumped to the chance of helping with directions to destinations. Kids entertainment was faultless, plenty of games to keep them entertained, they loved it. Playground with zip wire, swimming pool, plus a beautiful beach. Caravan was snug and clean. Had a amazing time- brilliant camp site. Visited John -o-Groats, Falls of shin, Donorch very quaint village. Seriously didnt want to go. Brilliant for sun newspaper holiday. Came from N- Wales took us 10 hours with stops and 95 quid each way, but definatley worth it. Scotland is a beautifull place 10/10 x

Lovely setting right on the beach, caravans have all mod cons and make for a comfortable base. The small bedrooms are quite tight for adults but would be ok for kids. The beach is literally on the doorstep Site has a wee shop, bar and restaurant along with swimming pool and plenty of activities to keep you occupied. Stayed here twice now and would go back again.
