For a decade or two, I have travelled to Scotland every other year for two weeks of golf. I never fail to stop in Dornoch. It is the perfect Scottish town, ancient cathedral, beachs, farms and five excellent golf courses. Now I always stay at The Bank House, a B&B with five extra-large rooms, beautifully decorated, gardens, modern bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs, cable TV. The breakfasts are big and Scottish. For supper there's a pub/restaurant just across the street or a five minute walk takes you to the town square passing several restaurants on the way with a range of prices.
In October I brought my nephew along to experience Highland golf at several locations. We had played for seven straight days when he tore a muscle in his left calf. The accumulation of blood caused swelling and pain that ended his golf outing. Luckily we were staying at The Bank House so that the owners, Paul & Irene, could help me change travel arrangements and get him home to Chicago. Irene had recently broken her leg; she loaned my nephew one of her crutches to practice and see if it was adequate for travel. We used their laptop to book a room at a Heathrow hotel that would ease his travel. We borrowed Paul's cell phone to receive calls from home. Paul recommended a stop at a medical clinic in nearby Golspie. We found a doctor there on a Saturday morning that OK'd him for travel and loaned him a crutch that would get him to Chicago. We thank the Scottish medical system for a free exam and a free loaner crutch. SO, do travel to the Highlands, do stop in Dornoch, do stay at The Bank House. You'll be in good hands.
