“Things are looking up”

I can remember when the building that is now the beating heart of the Mar Hall Hotel was the centre of Erskine Hospital.
The re-vamp of the provision made by the Hospital liberated the manor house for a major overhaul to be born again as the Mar Hall Hotel.
Handy for Glasgow's Abbotsinch Airport, Mar Hall offers luxury and seclusion on a unique riverside location.

“The proverbial curate's egg”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

Went for afternoon tea... two of us had the £22.00 option for the afternoon tea, whereas the 3rd memeber of our party had starter and main from the menu. I have to say the afternoon tea option was a total rip-off, and on arrival we waited for 15 mins before we went to find a member of staff.

The food the 3rd member of our party was served was nice, and better value for money.

That said, the lobby of the hotel is a lovely place to work and we were certainly not disturbed by the staff!

“Afternoon Tea”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2012

Very disappointed with the standard of afternoon tea offered on a Monday. Poor selection of basic sandwiches and very poor stale cakes. No imagination but very large price. My advice is go somewhere else and don't bother to complain as they are not interested just happy to take your money for very little effort from them.

“Mar Hall very disappointing on alll counts”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2012

We had a meal at Mar Hall to celebrate a special family occasion and we were bitterly disappointed with the whole experience. The portion sizes were the smallest we have been served anywhere. The venison was advertised to be served with sweetbreads and these never appeared. When we asked, the waitress giggled and said the chef sent his apologies. No explanations or alternatives were suggested. The halibut was very overcooked and the pistachio cake was dry. We wrote to the manager afterwards to express our disappointment. He phoned to ask for details and said he would investigate and phone back. We heard nothing more. This is hugely overpriced and the food is very poor. I would never recommend this to anyone and certainly not if you are hoping to have a special meal.
