Arrived on Friday in the rain. Warm welcome and the log fire immediately lit. Such a relaxing place. The decor could be described as comfortable and the 6 course taster menu, cooked by the chef who is also one of the propriators was excellent.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and we ddn't feel just a number.

Sitting by a roaring log fire was one of our requirements and we certainly got that, even late in the evening with a liquer. There was a large range of whiskies although that is not our tipple.

Lovely view from the public rooms over the loch.

Thanks for your positive review. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay, and that the log fire inside compensated for the rain outside.

We stayed here after buying the 'itison' offer which included breakfast and a 6 course taster menu. the food was amazing, I can honestly say that EVERY course was better than the last! The menu included salmon, lobster, pigeon and venison! Jamie Oliver... eat your heart out!!! This food was amazing. We were also very impressed with the waitress who gave a full explanation of what we were eating and how it was cooked. The bedroom was very modern with a stunning view over the loch and had free wi-fi connection. We will definately be back and will recommend this hotel to all our friends.Sorry if I am premature with my review, we have not tried breakfast yet! The food so far has been breathtaking, as have been the views!!! See my next review after breakfast!

Room Tip: We were in room 6... Great views, and HUGE!!!

Thanks for your generous review.

I'm glad you enjoyed the six course taster menu. This is the best time of year for the variety of local food we can source, especially game, so it is the ideal time of year to enjoy a taster menu.

Hoping to see you again soon.

Stayed here on Sunday night with friends on an "Itison" deal. Enjoyed our stay with excellent food on the taster menu and breakfast next day good as well.
We had a sandwich from the local shop in the afternoon as there was nothing available at the hotel and this was also nice.
Lovely scenery all around and we were lucky with the weather - rained later on the Monday.

Room Tip: Room 6 and 7 nicely decorated and lovely mountain views.

We stayed here after buying the 'itison' offer which included breakfast and a 6 course taster menu. the food was amazing and included wood pidgeon and venison which we hadn't eaten before. We were very impressed with the waitress who gave a full explanation of what we were eating and how it was cooked. The staff were friendly and welcoming and made our stay very enjoyable. The bedroom was very modern with a stunning view over the loch and had wi-fi connection which was good. There was a real fire in the sitting room which smelled great and was cosy and romantic. Breakfast was posh nosh too. I had the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Even the weather was perfect for a walk up the hill which gave great views over the loch. We would definately go back and would recommend this to our friends.

Room Tip: Book early!

Thanks for your kind review. The Taster Menu is a great way to try new dishes, and we are lucky in Perthshire with the abundance of local game.

Your tip is a good one: even in low season we tend to be full at weekends, so booking early is always advisable, especially if you want a particular room.

My husband and myself stayed at the Achray House Hotel overnight on Saturday. We had the taster menu which was absolutely delicious. After dinner we were able to take our drinks thorough to the lounge with a roaring log fire with views out over Loch Earn. The following morning we had an equally delicious breakfast. A truly relaxing get away. Would definately recommend this hotel.

Thanks for you generous review, and I'm glad you enjoyed our Taster Menu. This time of year is our favourite at Achray House, when you still have the long days of summer, but it is dark enough in the evening for the log fire.

Stayed here for 1 night in Sept 2012. Was visiting my sister and brother-in-law, who were there for 4 nights on holiday. Booked at short notice, getting a 40% discount and paying £51 for B&B. Hotel is not much to look at from the outside - it just looks like an average guesthouse, nothing special. But inside the bedrooms are very nice, while the lounges and dining room (the view!) are excellent. I turned up in the morning and guided the nervous couple up their first Munro - mighty Ben Chonzie! The weather and visibility were excellent and we had a very good walk. The highlight of the day was our interaction with a most excellent pair of Highland lassies, who'd managed to get themselves ever so slightly lost. Then it was back to dinner (not with the lassies, sadly!) - and this is the real reason to visit Achray House. I had a duck breast salad, lamb and cheese and biscuits. Everything was locally produced and freshly cooked - absolutely excellent. Sitting by the fire afterwards and sipping a Caol Ila just rounded things off perfectly. Many of the other guests we met seemed to come back to the hotel year after year - surely the highest recommendation?

We went to this highly recommended hotel with high hopes, the reviews were great, the photos looked lovely and we purchased what seemed like a great deal on ‘itison’. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and got to the hotel around 4pm. We hadn’t eaten all day, so knowing we would be too late for lunch we asked if we could get tea and sandwiches. I was very surprised to be told that the kitchen was closed and we could try the village shop (great Scottish hospitality!). Thankfully we were able to purchase 2 rolls because given our dinner experience we needed something for later. The room in the hotel (loch view) was a bit faded but comfy (especially the bed) and had excellent wi fi access. We really liked the peat burning fire in the sitting room. We were told dinner was at 7.30 (no choice because we were on the tasting menu) we told staff as soon as we arrived that my husband was allergic to all kinds of sea food, initially we were told that they would 'try to do something'. 3 hours later as we sat down to dinner we were still being told they would 'try to do something'. Is it really that unusual to deal with a guest who is allergic to fish? The tasting menu was 6 tiny courses. Enough food if you could eat all the courses however the salmon on the first course was substituted with broad beans, the lobster in the second with courgettes and the wood pigeon and venison courses so rare and bloody we both struggled to eat them. The trio of puddings was interesting, the black rice pudding tasted raw. The cheese course was good but only had 2 tiny oatcakes and a gherkin no bigger than my pinkie nail. . I think the staff could see how little we enjoyed dinner because they were very chatty with all the other couples having the tasting menu, but just put down the plates and moved away as quickly as possible when it came to us! Breakfast next morning was also a mixed affair. My husband enjoyed his full Scottish breakfast. I had smoked haddock and poached egg which was swimming in watery milk.

Probably the most frustrating issue hoteliers have to deal with is customers who when asked about food and their stay in general say everything was good, and then proceed to write a winging review anonymously on the web. Your review typifies this.

However, what I find most surprising is why you bought the deal in the first place. It was promoted as a taster menu (which is a menu of several small courses) described as "six course tasting menu featuring Scottish game, fish and shellfish". What is the point of booking this if you have an allergy to fish and shellfish?
