This hotel let us eat our special picnic at their outdoor tables, and we only had a cup of tea from them. My son and his wife were doing a Land's End John o Groats cycle and required a specific high calorie diet, so we needed to provide our own food. They accomodated us which was very helpful, and good for the charity Justice and Care for which they were raising funds, and awareness of the charity. MANY thanks!!

We had the sunday special. Soup was average but the roast beef was some of the worst beef we have ever eaten. It was tough, stringy, tasteless and slopped onto the plate. Accompanying this was an awful attempt at yorkshire pudding, inedible carrots (they looked unwashed) and some laughable roast potatoes. Our complaints landed on deaf ears, the staff disinterested. They offered us a free drink in compensation. The waiting person handed us a card with 'complimentary drinks' written on it - obviously they are well used to such complaints!

We were seated in a corner where we had a delightful view of dirt under a cup/glass stand.

We will never darken their door again.

Where is the charm? Room and bath were functional/adequate, but cold and completely impersonal, and staff unfriendly. The restaurant was OK (but one is definitely a captive audience). Poor service/value for the money, we definitely overpaid with our voucher payment, and this was even rated 4 stars - not sure whether/when this place has last been reviewed. We were looking very hard for the "charm", but there was very little of that. Would/cannot not recommend this B&B.

- the hotel had a bit of character to it
- famous hotel with links to the music industry
- staff were very friendly throughout
- we had a meal at the bar which was excellent
- breakfast was excellent, scrambled eggs and local smoked salmon!
- it is located on a main road, a bit of traffic noise but it didn't disturb me
- the rooms are in need of updating

Excellent, did my mother and myself proud. The food was excellent (i had the two course carvery meal), staff very warm, attentive and friendly. My mother was helped to the table, chair held and very courteously treated. Surroundings were warm and comfortable. Hats of to a great place with a sense of proper and food quality to match
