The hotel caters for conferences but mostly for familys and groups looking for a resort hotel. Reteraunts and bars choices from formal to coffee shop. This hotel is all about the family. Our room was a family executive room which consisted of a hall, bathroom, bedroom and a separate bedroom with two sets of bunk beds. There was a fridge to cool the drinks, a tv in each room and a dvd player.
Depending ( and be sure to check !) what rate your on the kids get fed all day with a buffet in the evening with a great choice of mains, soup and fruits and desserts.
There is a small place called "Big Country". Now our boys are not the best at leaving our sides in strange places but with a little reassurance they went. Big Country is a well staffed, secure, safe and fantastic place just for kids. With our stay the boys (aged 2 and 4) got two three hours sessions each day !! We would drop them off in the morning and collect them at 11.30 - 12. We would then spend the afternoon swimming at the hotel pool, have dinner, then pop them back in at 6.30 for an hour or so. When we finished swimming the boys kept asking if it was time to go back to big country. After each session the boys would come running out with pictures or craft things they had made, eager to tell us all about it.
Life is made simple at the hotel with so many activities to do as a family. There was simply not enough time during this stay to do it all so will have to return :-)

I was at Crieff Hydro for a conference. I had heard that the food wasn't up to much - our lunch was certainly good. The staff took good care of us. Our meeting was ideal and well resourced. The staff kept us topped up with tea/coffee and snacks (much better snacks than I had expected). Crieff is a good location as it is readily accessible from most parts of Scotland. There were lots of families and children around (it looks like a great place to take children as a parent or a grandparent). Having families around has a nice break from the business of the day - the combination worked well. I would use the Hotel as a business conference venue again.

As a frequent visitor to Crieff Hydro, the good bits have to outweigh the bad bits otherwise we would take our custom elsewhere. It is a shame however when you give feedback to a resort, that they acknowledge and then do nothing about.
First the good bits.

Big Country Kids Club.

This is the reason we love Crieff so much. Our kids just love this place. They talk about it weeks before we go on holiday and count down the number of sleeps until they get there. Activities are in various age groups, 2 to 4's 5 to 7's and 8 to 12's. As part of the accomodation package you are entitled to two 3 hour seasons per child in Big Country per day. It is advisable to book this in advance before arrival to avoid disapointment as during the holidays demand is at a premium. The staff are wonderful and take care of our boys aged 4(twins) and 6 so well, that it alows us as parents to chill out and relax.

The Clubhouse Bar situated at the Golf and Activity Centre.

Food is good, service is great, value is better than at the main complex. The menu could do with a few more options but what they have they do well and it is cheaper than the main complex. There is no seperate menu for evening meals but that might be about to change. Booking a table is advisable to avoid disapointment.

Hair and Beauty Salon.

Every time I visit Crieff Hydro I make sure I get a Hot stone Body Massage. This for me is the ultimate treat and fixes my back after a couple of nights on the rock hard uncomfortable beds of our accomodation. There has been a price reduction in the cost of some of the Beauty treatments which makes them better value.

Now to the Could Do Better Bits.

The beds are the most uncomfortable things I have ever paid money to lie on. I reckon I have my worst nights sleep on them every time I visit and need the Hot Stone Massage to fix my back after the beds..... Maybe they should throw in the massage for free.
I mentioned the beds to reception the day of check out and was told that house keeping could supply mattress toppers. I will be asking for them for our next visit in July and will let you know if they improve the sleep quality(if they are available).

The Brasserie Restaraunt.

Having previously complained about this restaraunt in a previous review, My wife and I were pleasantly suprised on our arrival to be met and ushered to a table by a friendly probably local waitress, and left with menus to view. Unfortunataly, despite rumours the menu has still not changed, so we were able to very quickly decide what we would order. Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more as countless waiters and waitresses scutlled past, head down not seeing that we were ready to order. Eventually after about 15 mins we were granted an audience with our waitress who took our food and drink order. We looked forward to having our first holiday drink (with the kids in Big Country) together to toast the start of our holiday. Eventually after another 15 or so mins our drinks arrived(yipee!!!!) How long does it take to pour a glass of wine and a pint? 5 minutes later our food arrived. It was nothing memorable and we ate the rest of our meals at The Clubhouse.

We will once again try the Brasserie when we visit in July. I hope there are improvements otherwise my next review will be stronger.

Have stayed here on several occasions over the last few years. What surprises me is the way the reception staff have to call an office somewhere to check availability and rate. On my latest trip they were not able to tell me how much a round of golf would cost me, one of them thought there was a token charge for residents. When I went down to golf centre they wanted to charge me full price.
The restaurant experience was not a good one. after waiting an age to be served at the bar I was given a table on the main thoroughfare where my table and chair vibrated every time a member of staff or guests kids hurried by. The food and service was pretty good but portions are small.

Being on the front of the hotel I could hear revellers in the distance until the small hours. Its so quiet outside the voices travel.

If your on business looking for a quiet relaxing evening and don't want to hear parents telling their tot to "do it in your nappy" at the breakfast table then I would think twice, I will the next time I`m in Crieff.
That said I find it difficult to rate it less than v good as most of my previous visits have been an enjoyable experience.

Just back from our 6th stay at Crieff hydro. We stayed from the 9th to 11th April. This was not our original dates for our stay. Originally, we were going on Easter Sunday and staying in the executive studios. However, we received a call on the Thursday saying there was a problem with the water supply and the studios where not available.
So we rearranged and stayed in rooms 209 & 211 which are executive interconnecting rooms. There was a cost difference in these rooms from our original booking but did not need to pay the difference. These rooms were excellent, in terms of space and decor. However, only one niggle was that the beds were extremely firm and didn't make for a perfect nights sleep.

We had dinner in the brasserie on both nights. Food was of good quality on both nights. Breakfast was in the meikle restaurant and this really does set you up for the day. Really good choice and even thought it was still the Easter holidays service was quick and didn't need to wait long at the buffet section.

Our 6 yr old went to the big country serveral times and really enjoyed it. Must say the staff here are great and dealt with out son very well when he sliced his finger on the pirate ship!

We booked some activities for our son including the superhero activity session for 6-7 year olds. This included water walkers, the zip slide and the quad pods. He also had a shot on the quad bikes and tryed archery. He loved them all.

Overall, we had a great break and we have already rebooked for September.

We have been going to Crieff with the children since they were small and now are going with grandchildren. The children's facilities are first class, with 6 hours childcare included in the price in their own dedicated kids' zone.
The pool and spa facilities are good, the restaurants offer very pleasant and interesting meals, and the service is very efficient. Breakfast are great especially if you like haggis.
Perhaps it is not the cheapest hotel in Scotland, but it seldom disappoints. It has great walks, golf courses, and lovely scenery. There is a cinema for damp afternoons, as well as Scottish dancing in the evenings.
