My friend booked this hotel for me as a birthday treat. It was a two day deal for two with bed and breakfast and one lunch, also included in the deal was a neck, shoulder and back massage. We also had use of the swimming pool, sauna, etc.
We stayed in the lodge which is just a few yards from the main building. Our room was called Ben Ledi, it was very comfortable and very spacious. The bathroom was big and the shower over the bath had great pressure and piping hot water.
We had a meal in the rooftop resturant which was very good.
The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
All in all we had a great break and would recommend this hotel.

If you're thinking of travelling to Crieff, stay at the Hydro! Having stayed at the Hydro on many occasions before, I thought I'd book this to try something a bit different. In a word, not worth the money and a complete dissappointment.

We stayed in one of the Castle Rooms which was small and had a bathroom that was more basic than in any hotel I've stayed before.

If you're happy going outside and down a full set of outside stairs in your bikini and robe to use the swimming pool (bearing in mind Scotlands recent weather) then maybe this place is for you but very odd set up and takes a bit of the 'leisure' out of the equation.

Menus were limited and therefore we chose not to eat in the restaurant but if breakfast was anything to by, doubt we'd get much for our money. I expect to see small portions in fine dining restaurants but the portions were taking presentation to the extreme and laughable at the expense of leaving us hungry!

If you're thinking about having a pre dinner or quiet alcoholic drink in your room, please be aware of the £20 corkage per bottle! And also be mindful that if you request a bucket of ice, that'll set you back another £5.

Expensive and dissappointing stay. For the same money, would have been guaranteed a lovely stay five minutes down the road at Crieff Hydro and already planning my next trip there to make up for the last disaster!

For anyone that is actually going to entertain this review i feel i must place a response.
Firstly if your in doubt about the rooms please have a look at our website as all rooms have virtual tours and for pictures of the bathrooms just ask the receptionist and she will email your some.
In response to the pool yes it is in another building and we have never pretended that it isnt the pool is approx 20meters from the hotel and has changing facilities and shower lockers a reception in the building i must note that in the review they are directing you to think the actuall pool is outside well it is simply not it is self contained in a glass building that sits at a temperature of 30 degrees so yes we are in scotland clearly but i can assure you the building is tropical lol
With reference to the menus now this is a good one as you will notice the reviewer has clearly stated that they never ate in the restaurant but then goes on to comment that the portions were really small ??? very strange or maybe they are refering to the fine dinning breakfast ???. Breakfast is what ever you want it to be we serve in a castle breakfast as standard 2 sausages, 2 bacon, half grilled tomato, about 5 mushrooms halfed or possibly sometimes quartered depending on the size of the mushroom, cirlce of stornway black pudding tattie scone and fried bread half slice quite a standard amount we also sever a full continetal breakfast with criossants, honey roast ham, natural yoghurts and fruit ones too ,cheeses, fresh fruit salad, toast and tea and coffee. nearly forgot Kippers and Abroath smokies too and also with the breakfast you can have eggs, fried ,poached ,scrambled or even raw if you like lol.
Not sure if i have missed anything of that list its possible :) anyways if you ask for sausages and tomato you will get 2 sausages and a half tomato but if you would like more as in any resaurant just ask its nt a porblem as anyone who has been here knows.
Ok finally the corkage well i think anyone who has ventured down this far of the response already knows the answer to this all Hotels will charge you corkage, if you want a cheap carry out go caravaning you can bring your own drink just dont get caught ;) it clearly says it on the website about the corkage charge and in all the literature.
I mean come on you wouldnt go to a hotel and try to smuggle in a chinese takeaway would you or would you ? if you would then seriously Knock Castle is not for you.
If you are still in any doubt please feel free to call up and ask for the manager (thats me) and i will be more than happy to look after you.

Had an amazing weekend with my partner. Everyone was so nice and so helpful. The spa with steam room, sauna and pool was luxurious and so relaxing. I would definately go again and look forward to going back. Also the food was really nice, especially the fish dishes. The room was relaxing and cosy. Shower was the best ive ever been in. I love watching films and the hotel had a free dvd hire for your room and we spent one night in the cinema room which was great too. Was free also. I would highly recommend this spa and the castle is in beautiful surroundings.

Hotel blurb usually comes from the same stable as that of estate agents - to be taken with a large pinch of salt! Knock Castle, however, goes a long way to meeting its aspirations.

Others have commented on the fine impression given by the view up the stairs to the front door as one pulls into the car park (and the "Strictly no under 18's" notice at the entrance impresses curmudgeons like me!)

Following a welcome by name at the front desk (OK - they were probably not expecting too many single male travellers on a Friday afternoon, but at least it shows effort) I was escorted to my room in the new wing. It was a proper single with a good size comfortable single bed and a reasonable amount of space, with a shower room/toilet off). The shower was not one of these poky cabinets, but a roomy corner one with a good shower head and water flow. Only a small shelf above the basin for toilet bag, etc, though. As someone else commented, the modern rooms are very much of an international type, pretty anonymous and could be anywhere in the world. Apart from the magnificent view over Strathearn. Actually that says a lot, as single rooms are often tucked at the back of hotels with a fine view of the air conditioning units or the kitchen bins. Not this one!

A couple of niggles though. Like so many hotel rooms there is nowhere to hang up a wet coat apart from in the wardrobe - and after all, this is Scotland! The freeview TV box did not work at first, but being a bit techie, I switched it off at the wall and it rebooted fine. Also, although I got a good wifi signal on the laptop I could not connect in my room, only in the downstairs lounge where it worked fine. That was no real hardship. There's a sort of conservatory off the main lounge looking out over the stairs up to the front door which was a nice quiet comfy place to work.

To food. The Rooftop restaurant was great, with a good choice (but with a large model stag on the terrace, no venison on the menu?). I was on a DBB rate and it was good that this included either the 3-course table d'hote menu or an allowance to mix and match from all the menus (including the bar menu). The scallops were divine! No half bottles of wine for the single traveller though, but a reasonable selection of wines by the glass. Breakfast choice is good - fine porridge and great scrambled eggs and smoked salmon (a generous helping) went down well. However, perhaps the blurb could make it clear that there is a dress code in each restaurant - collar and tie in the Oak Room (which was not open) and smart casual (no shorts or football shirts) in the Stag's View. Not unreasonable, but knowing in advance saves possible embarrassment. Not a wide selection of malts in the bar (a bar in Crieff boasts of over 100!), but the local Ossian beer went down very well. Especially after a sauna session.

Therefore to the leisure facilities. Another reviewer complained about the gym equipment, but the range and numbers are fairly typical of a hotel gym and better than some I've been in. More than adequate to work off a few of the calories put on in the restaurant! The swimming pool is a good size. The steam room is fine, but in the early morning the sauna was not on to heat up, although later in the day it was at a good temperature. Again, it could be made clear that these facilities are in a separate building reached down a steep flight of concrete steps (crumbling slightly in places - although there is a much longer sloping path). Far enough away to get wet going down in gym kit in the rain!

I had not booked in advance, so the diary for massages, etc., was full. My bad. I had a session in the Egg though. Very relaxing, but a tad expensive at £15 for 15 minutes.

In summary, Knock Castle is a good experience, especially as the staff members are attentive and helpful, but not intrusive. It's certainly not cheap, but is good value. It was my first visit, but hopefully not the last.

Stayed at Knock Castle Hotel and Spa for my birthday treat,as soon as you drive up to Knock Castle you know that you are in for an unforgettable time. The scenery around the castle is breathtaking and as you enter the hotel you are welcomed with extremely polite friendly staff.
We stayed in the Glen Almond Suite, the furnishings in the room where of the highest calibre. The bathroom was out of this world double shower then steps leading up to this huge bath with views out of the 3 windows Julia Roberts moment. Treatments in the spa were fantastic made you feel very relaxed. We ate up on the roof top which was the most breathtaking experience I have had eating a meal. The food was presented to a very high standard and tasted excellent 10 out of 10. Wine list to die for spoiled for choice, service throughout meal first class.
Most enjoyable, satisfied and relaxed time I have had staying in a hotel in a long time.
What you take away with you from Knock Castle is a little piece of heaven. Will be back again and again.
