“Constructive criticism”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

We returned today from a 3 night special offer (self catering). Our experiences:-

Accommodation:

Positives: 2 large bedrooms, very comfortable beds, clean linen, plenty of coat hangers and storage space. Ensuite and family bathrooms were large, great showers which did not lose their power when both were being used at the same time (always a bonus). White fluffy towels provided. Open plan kitchen and lounge was very large and comfortable, Family size fridge freezer and dishwasher. Plenty of kitchen equipment. Basic cleaning materials provided. Wall heaters were very powerful and the room retained its heat despite it being very cold and windy outdoors. The furniture was comfortable and ideal for relaxation and practicality.

Negatives: yes, there were stains on the carpet and one of the sofa's had several small torn pieces - the stains could easily be removed with an industrial cleaner. The sofa would, I suspect, need recovered.

Facilities:

Positives: All the staff we met whether reception, bar or facility staff, presented as professional and friendly. The provision of 'bar food' and restaurant caters for all tastes and set priced menus (£15 for 3 courses in bar and £27 in the restaurant) and a la carte menus suit all budgets. The grounds were well kept and the ducks provided an additional interest. It's ideally located with Aberfeldy town centre within easy walking distance and plenty of countryside to stroll around. Ideal location base for exploring the local area.

Negatives: A big part of our decision to come to Moness was the provision of the swimming pool. Unfortunately, the bar overlooks the pool. As someone who does not feel overly confident either wearing a swimming costume or swimming - being viewed on by people in the bar area (both the children's play area and in the eating section ) put me completely off using the facilities. However, if this isn't an issue for you -great, but if it is - be aware that you will be being observed

It would have been good to have had a lounge area outwith the Terraces bar (which caters for dining and family play). A nice room with sofas and comfortable chairs were you could relax with a quiet drink after a meal or to enjoy a quiet read would add greatly to the facilities.

Overall: We really enjoyed our time at Moness however, we paid with a Groupon deal (£189 for 3 nights self catering) which resulted in us paying less than half of the online rates. I would have been disappointed if we had paid the full price. Definitely good value on a 'deal' but online rates are overpriced and I don't think the resort is worth that. The stains on the carpet and the small tears on one of the sofas did not detract from the overall cleanliness of the accommodation - it was otherwise spotless. The cleanest self catering accommodation, I have ever stayed in.

Would I return? Probably not - but mainly because of the lack of privacy in the pool area.

Stayed for 2 nights in Farm cottage overlooking the duck pond. We arrived early but the cottage was ready so we didnt need to hang around. That wouldnt have been a problem anyway as there is lots to do. We were quite surprised by the size of the accommodation. The living area was upstairs which was great, as the double doors opened out with a view over the duck pond. The bedroom and bathroom were downstairs, and both were very spacious. Everything clean and tidy, and the resort is very well maintained. It's very family friendly and service is very good. Would have no problem going back for another visit.

Stayed in Morlich cottage for three nights. We saw lots of ducks. Children fed the ducks. We also found a deer running along the garden. Was in the pool every day. Nice and clean facilities at the pool. There is a pool table outside the pool. Swimming pool warm. Outside play area could be better. Meal was good value for money. We have had a lovely stay and we hope to come back.

We visited the Moness Resort to celebrate a family birthday, and there were 16 people in our party. The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful from the point of booking to check out. The offer of private dining facilities was particularly helpful. The stay was also great value.
We had rooms of different categories in the hotel, including a garden suite, and all of the rooms very large and freshly decorated, with fantastic bathrooms. I wouldn't bother going for the garden suites as the superior rooms very just as good. Would highly recommend Moness for large family gatherings or big groups of friends.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room.

Just returned from a 2 night stay with a Groupon deal. The resort is nice, but basic. We had the Garden Suite, which is part of the hotel. Disappointing that there wasn't a mini-bar or fridge in the room. The room was large but we could hear the guests chatting in the room next door so not very sound proof. The bathroom/bath was the highlight of the room, it was substantial in size. The room itself was basic, and the bed was too short for my partner, his feet hung over the edge.... He is only 6ft! The only food we had was at Breakfast. The cooked breakfast was good but the continental selection wasn't great. The pool was quite small, but the pool area with the hot tub, sauna and steam room was good. The staff were friendly, and when we advised there was no Internet they did call us to check that it was back working. I'm not sure how much it costs to stay here when not on a deal, but I don't think I would pay more than the £140 for the 2 nights b&b in the upgraded room that we paid.
