We stayed here for three nights (from 17 September as part of a group. We had a very friendly greeting and were amazed at the size of the room we had - it was old fashioned but comfortable with real old wooden sash windows - which rattled in the gale that was blowing - a judicious stuffing with toilet paper speedily cured the problem!. Spotless with a large bathroom and good shower. Breakfasts were superb as were the evening meals and I can heartlily recommend the local beer - particularly the Raven Bitter. A good wine list kept my husband happy. On the down side the lift was miniscule - but you got good cardiovascular exercise climbing the stairs! As regards teh staff it seemed that nothing was too much trouble. We'd certainly stay there again

We stayed here in early August and had a wonderful time. The hotel room could do with updating but was wonderfully clean with heaps of room. We found the staff very helpful and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The restaurant served good meals. Would recommend it as a place to stay as it overlooks the harbour and is on the main street in Stromness. Am looking forward to going back!

We stayed at the Stromness Hotel for three nights and just loved the place. Although a bit tired the place was charming and the staff so helpful. There was a mini hurrricane during the Saturday night with lashing rain, the wind whistled around the building and this just added to the great experience. The breakfasts and evening meals were first class and we will certainly return in the future. If we have any criticism it would have to be that the WiFi only worked in the Whisky Bar (there might be an ulterior motive here!) A comfy lounge would have been great (if there was one we didn't find it). Visitors MUST visit Julia's Cafe & Bistro by the habour (the orkney fudge cheesecake is to die for) and attend the Story Telling in the Stromness Hotel Whisky Bar (www,orkneyattractions.com) where Lynn will entertain you with wonderful stories in front of a peat fire ( a drink is included in the price), and, if you have the time John will take you on a brilliant and very informative walking tour of Stromness.

Room Tip: ask for a habour view room, we believe room 2 to be the best

Stayed 1 night in the Stromness Hotel after our tent was blown away in a storm, and our return ferry was next day. The price we paid for the hotel was probably near the top end for the Island, but with a lot of B&B's full, we didn't want the hassle of driving round trying to find somewhere cheaper.
The hotel is a bit dated and basic, but clean with friendly and accommodating staff. The breakfast was fine with a buffet for fruit, juice and cereal and A' La Carte for cooked breakfast. We had dinner in the the restaurant, which was a lovely meal (especially the seafood) and had a drink in the lounge. Overall, a great hotel, warm and comfortable.

The Stromness Hotel is located in front of the harbour, in the middle of the town. Rooms are standard and very roomy. Restaurant offers a varied menu. The bar at the restaurant has a nice selection of ales from two Orcadian breweries. What is most remarkable is the Hotel's Whisky Bar, which claims to offer more than 100 types of whisky. I counted 85 different bottles in total ... Overall, it is a nice place to stay. Hotel staff were very friendly.

We stayed at the Stromness Hotel for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a family room with 4 single beds which was very spacious and clean. The hotel has old fashioned charm and the staff were extremely welcoming.

We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent and great value for money. Breakfast was also very nice and we would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling in Orkney.

We stayed here with a group of 27 visiting Orkney. It's a fantastic location: close to the harbour, buses and with a fabulous view over to Hoy. There is also parking provided if you need it. The rooms were all comfortable and quiet and the staff were invariably helpful. The breakfast was great: haggis, full Scottish and porridge to die for. We didn't book in for supper but ended up eating here most nights. It has the best food in Stromness with the best views to compliment a meal - far better food and value than anywhere else in town.

We'll be back!
