Beautiful house with every amenity, set in glorious countryside with views to die for. Warm welcome from Darren and Jayne who showed us around to explain where everything was. Great location, you will not be disappointed
The property is very welcoming and comfortable and the excellent welcome basket is the best we have received on all our self-catering holidays. The owners, Jayne and Darren, were very friendly and welcoming.
The local Co-op in Dounby is very handy for food, and very friendly, as are all the local people that we met. The beach and Broch of Gurness are well worth a visit, and are both on the doorstep.
This was a very comfy, clean, warm and very nicely renovated holiday cottage. The location was great and it really was like home from home with everything you could need to make a holiday work. The owners were friendly and attentive and always contactable if needed.
All in all a great place to stay and would certainly go back without hesitation.
Upon arriving we were greeted by Darren who gave us a quick tour before letting us settle in. This modern cottage has been finished to a very high standard and was well equipped. The cleanliness was also exemplary!
Although we knew exactly what we were doing while there, there was plenty of leaflets on hand to offer ideas of places to see and things to do.
The wood burning stove in the living room was also brilliant for the blustery evenings.
A wonderful place that we will be back to visit in the future!
We booked Lower Quoys at short notice when we discovered how difficult/expensive it was to find hotel rooms on the Orkneys. We're very glad we found this house instead. A lovely comfortable house with sitting room (two sofas), dining room, well-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms and shared shower room. There was also very good wi-fi and a high quality TV and TV signal.
The hosts were very welcoming, the house immacutely clean, and they provided a welcome supply of goodies and logs for the fire.
My only advice is to set your satnav when you still have a signal - neither of us had a signal on that side of the island, and as it was dark when we arrived it was tricky to spot the landmarks given with the instructions.
If you like neolithic monuments there's probably nowhere better to go in the UK/Europe - everywhere is within an easy drive and, in December at least, almost deserted - yet still open.
