“Dogs, Childrens and Book lovers Paradise.”

We loved this cottage from the minute we arrived to an extremely warm welcome from Sandra,,Tom and Corben .In the small kitchen area there was a lovely welcoming basket of tea, coffee and local goodies.Every thing was spotlessly clean The cottage is extremely cosy with two very comfortable bedrooms and two settees, a small television, and DVD player in the living room. Every where there are book s of a very varied nature. Another week just to read would be a good idea.
The cottage is situated in Old Hall's very large fenced garden where our children (aged 3,6 8 and to 12) and our dog spent many hours playing with the Family's dogs and son. There were lots of outdoor toys provided. There are wonderful views from the cottage and on dark evenings starry skies and sights of all the lighthouses flashing are worth going outside for.
Tom is very proud of his garden and spends many hours working there. In summer he will have plenty of vegetables available for guests to purchase. The family also took delivery of two beautiful baby pigmy goats whilst were were there, to the delight of our family.
There are many lovely walks (both short and long), close by with the nearest beach being less than 5 minutes away.
Longhope village is just a few minutes by car and the village shop is adequate for supplies of food. The lifeboat museum and the memorial in the local cemetery are worth visiting and extremely moving. A trip to Rackwick Bay at the opposite end of the island plus a walk in to The Old Man of Hoy is really recommended.
Sandra was extremely helpful and excellent at answering all our queries before and during our stay and whilst she and Tom have their home in the grounds they are very friendly but not intrusive in any way. We were a very large group of three adults and four children and the only disadvantage was the very small kitchen area but this would probably be perfectly adequate for the usual smaller parties of three or four people.
I would certainly recommend a stay here for those who are hoping for a peaceful holiday and wishing to explore Hoy.

“Beautiful retreat on Orkney”

We got married at Orkney and spent our honeymoon at Old Hall Cottage. The views from the cottage are stunning at all times of the day. The owners live next door and are always available to help and were happy to share fresh herbs from the garden and eggs from their own hens. Our dog very much enjoyed the large, safely fenced garden. The cottage is cosy, clean and comfortable. It is a great retreat from the world, surrounded by nature.

Provided you have a car to get around - or are used to walking quite a bit - the nearby village has a well stocked shop and a lovely pub. By car you can reach Rackwick beach and the Old Man of Hoy and there is a local bus and a ferry to Mainland for more sightseeing.
