This hotel is well located for the motorways and has a great park nearby for those wanting to have a good wander. The rooms are typical of the chain, clean but not exciting. The breakfast was well, free.... If you can get a room at the Alona hotel just inside the park then go for that first off. They have also added an Innkeepers lodge to the side of the Toby Carvery, yes it's another chain but might be cheaper :)

Only stayed here as the hotel I normally stop at whilst visiting was full (and prob can see why that was full and not this one). To be honest the service from staff was great and the young lady at reception always smiled and welcomed.

The rooms however are typical to any of these hotels, quite unclean too - food was very very average, basically a micro meal for £20 - some previous reviewer has put "great food" on here... you seriously need to visit more places...

Breakfast is just awful - dont even bother with it, youll get more satisfaction from making your own cuppa tea in your room with the little filthy device in there they call a kettle...

Book the Alona just 200 meters down the road (if its not full) - its royalty compared to this

On the first day of a Scottish Touring Holiday this was one of the best hotels we stayed in and the only one with a lift. Easy access to the M74 Motorway, plenty of space, nice soft beds, good food in their restaurant and a Toby Restaurant next door with a wider menu. Only downside on one of the hottest days of the year - no air conditioning, so slept with the window open and some road noise.

I have stayed in a large number of HI express, including the nearby one in Hamilton. The Hamilton one is normally slightly cheaper.

We picked this one, as it was likely to be quieter on a saturday night that a town centre location, and it was. We had a room on the park side of the hotel and it was quiet. I suspect other reviewers might have had rooms on the motorway side of the hotel and been affected by traffic noise, which we could not hear. The hotel is right in the park which is wonderful for a nice walk; the park is most scenic.

This was the first time we had stayed since the breakfasts in HI had been upgraded to include hot choices. The scrambled eggs and bacon were a welcome addition and enabled the gluten free diners to have a good breakfast.

The only down side are the smokers, who insist on hovering around the door. Quite annoying, considering they have a whole park to go and smoke in.

For those interested, there is a small funfair and pleasure park nearby the hotel within Strathclyde Park for those wanting some amusement.

At £50 the room rates here aren't extortionate, and the rooms are standard fodder for the HI Express chain. Considering it's right next to the motorway noise levels aren't that bad - walls are a bit thin and some noise gets through, but nothing worse than anywhere else on this budget. Staff are friendly and courteous, and the service is efficient. Breakfast is the usual all-you-can-eat continental affair - to be honest it was all tasty and I didn't miss the fry-up buffet you get at regular HI hotels!

For evening food the Toby Carvery round the corner is a safe bet - a big plate of roast and trimmings for a fiver and plenty of drinks to choose from.

All in all if you're staying near Glasgow or on your way somewhere else, it's a good bet for a clean, comfortable stopover.
