I was really grateful to TA reviewers for the information on this restaurant although we still made a recce run there earlier in the day to make sure. Being in Motherwell and next to an amusement park it isn't the likeliest candidate to tickle my wife's birthday palate but it is clean, modern, comfortable and the vennison medallions were to die for, the black pudding start light as a feather and bread and butter pudding delicious. That said the service was not even up to a Harvester or similar although naturally all very friendly, lack of training surely as they have a great chef, kitchen visible and plates assembled in view first class that. Just needs food sources stating and some bottles at least of British beers.

Husband and I went for lunch yesterday. Sat immediately and ordered from the lunch menu. Really enjoyed our meal and splashed out and had three courses.

The mushroom soup was very nice with a choice of brown or white bread with butter.

I had the chicken with herb mashed potato and black pudding wtih sauce. The chicken was beautifully cooked, as was black pudding, the sauce was lovely and runner beans very nicely cooked..... did not enjoy the mashed potato and hubby tasted and thought it was a bit garlicky and maybe reconsituted mash potato? However still really enjoyed the meal (minus the potato).

Cant remember the name of what husband had, it was the salmon and fish that was encased in batter and deep fried and chips. He enjoyed the fish and chips.

For dessert we had the mango cheescake and chocolate tart with cream. Husband changed the cream to ice cream for extra charge as he does not like cream.

Both were really nice, but mango cheescake is really cheescake with mango sauce poured over it.

We eat here frequently for lunch and sometimes for dinner and we always make sure, we have plenty of time, as the service can be really slow at times. But we know that the chefs are cooking from fresh.

It is such a shame that chef's are producing quite high quality food for them to end up cooking ready made chips and reconsituted mash? Come on Alona chefs, I know you can cook, do better, get managemet to buy a potato peeler machine and get cooking proper chips and mashed potato.

Al in all we both enjoyed our meals and will be back would recommend.

Expectations are important. This restaurant is not in a great location - being right next to a 'theme park'. It's also in the 'Premier Inn / Travelodge' league as regards room prices, so... to find a very good quality restaurant is a very welcome surprise. I've had lunch here perhaps eight or nine times in the past year and I've always had a first-class meal. The service can be a bit hit or miss, but the excellent food at a reasonable price covers up any shortcomings on service. I also had breakfast on a recent Saturday morning (with another 3 adults and 3 children) and it was absolutely perfect. Maybe I should have given it five stars...

My wife went to this restaurant with a number of other ladies shortly before Christmas for an evening meal. It is situated at the north side of Starthclyde Park. Everyone seemed very pleased both with the meal and the service.
