7 of us shared the Coach House and Beech House for a week in Sept 2010.

The Good Points:
- Good location on a bus route about a 30 min walk to downtown, and a 5 minute walk to the beach.
- Plenty of room to park
- Although it's on a busy road, the cottages are set well back, so it's very quiet and peaceful.
- The grounds are very nice and back onto a wooded bank with Rottenburn golf course at the top so there’s absolutely nobody behind.
- Tom was responsive to our questions before (by email) and after we arrived.
- Free Wireless Internet, although it went out a few times.
- Good value. The price was quite reasonable.

Things That Could be Improved:
- The Beech House smelled musty and needs a good scrubbing, perhaps by professional cleaners.
- No hand soap. We had to ask for it.
- The lengthy list of chores required before we left was unexpected. Since this is a self catering, we expected to have to leave the cottages neat and tidy with the dishes cleaned and put away, but we didn’t expect to be required to mop the floors and clean the bathrooms and toilets. Also since there was a shortage of cleaning supplies, we had to go out and buy some. We thought that Tom could easily charge £20 or £30 more per week and have someone come in and clean after each use.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and would come back to the Coach House, but not to the Beech House.

I have a dog and he is not good in kennels, so a few years ago i wanted to go on holiday in the UK and googled somewhere in Ayrshire that would allow dogs. Haus Saron in Largs was the only place that would allow pets, so i booked up, that was four years ago! I have been going back there every year for two weeks and am planning to stay next year for three weeks. It is in a perfect location for shops, beaches, trips across to other islands and anything else really you would expect from a holiday. The owners are lovely and give you all the privacy you want, but if you need them they are there. The accomodation is very comfortable and you will find everything you need for a self catering holiday. To be honest i wouldn't risk trying anywhere else now, because we love it so much there!

If you are looking for designer furnishing and top end appliances then this is not the place for you. If however you want comfortable, relaxed and homely surroundings then this will fit the bill perfectly. The children loved playing in the gardens and the accommodation was roomy enough for playing inside on the odd wet day.
We have stayed at Haus saron before and as ever found the owners to be friendly, accommodating, helpful and very knowledgeable about local events and amenities.
Haus Saron is perfectly situated, close enough to easily walk into Largs yet far enough away from any town and road noise.
We all had a great holiday, slept very well (very comfortable beds) and will definitely be back next year.

Coach House was booked by my sister and elderly parents for a week and I was joining them for three nights but due to accommodation I could not have stayed any longer. The property smelt damp, the cooker was dirty, the dining table in the lounge had an old curtain as a table cloth substitute and the chairs and sofa were old and very tired. The garden was poorly kept and the view from the rear windows was of an overgrown jungle!
The smell in the twin room was awful and on stripping the bed on departure I discovered the duvet was soiled!!!!
Overall, an extremely poor experience and would not recommend this property to anyone.

One is always amazed by the compliments that one gets for a property from clients who used this property the fortnight before - and for the 5th successive year and then we get comments that are the exact opposite from other clients

In response to the points . The Coach House is on the first floor , faces south west and is not damp and certainly not in July

The oak table in the lounge does not have a cloth but uses a selection of place mats

The dining chairs are pine and are in good order - the two sofas are about 5 years old and are certainly not tired

The garden and grounds extend to some 1.5 acres and are not poorly kept - all the houses have well cut grass in front of them with a good selection of hanging baskets , window boxes and flower beds

The view from the rear windows is onto the steep hillside and woods which are left in a wild natural state -it may indeed appear as a "jungle"

We have never had any complaint regarding a "smell" in any of the twin bedrooms and will examine the duvets for any soiling - the duvet covers are brand new

Once again this is the first we have heard of any of these complaints from this client - it would have been helpful if these matters could have been raised with us so that they could be attended to as needed

p.s the following week had a return visit from a family who had used this house before -and who were completely happy – but like most contented people did not feel the need to write to trip advisor
