Stayed in the old nunnery house for weekend to celebrate birthday . House was massive with all bedrooms being
Upstairs but there is also a comfy sofa bed in the pool room that we used for my aunt who can't get upstairs easily anymore. 2 bathrooms downstairs both with showers.
Most of the bedrooms look freshly decorated and 4 have stunning 4 poster beds with additional sofa beds. It was a squeeze to get 4 sleeping in these rooms but mattresses are comfortable and if kept the overall costs down for our group.
Modern bathrooms wirh clarins shower gels supplied.
We booked the catering package. I would describe it as homely rather than fancy food and cooked fresh. Afternoon tea has finger sandwiches, scone and cupcake and was very filling as cupcakes huge. Recommend booking this earlier as we struggled eating our 6 course dinner in evening after this. Amazing value at £20pp for both and that is including a glass of champers.
The views are beautiful and we were blessed with great weather.
It is in a residential area and there are outside noise restrictions but you can have loud music inside if the doors a s windows are closed so we never felt restricted.
We were looking to return early next year but they were booked up already.
I would recommend this place for a refined and relaxing weekend break with friends and family.
Booked the wee nunnery (annex) for my sisters hen party. House sounded amazing aswell as getting spa treatments afternoon tea and 6 course dinner it was perfect! When we arrived the house was lovely then it went downhill from there.. had a disagreement with another hen party next door (which was resolved the next morning) with this we were threatened that our £400 deposit would be taken from us. Ended up with 1 bathroom and shower between 18 guests after there was a leak which flooded downstairs and blocked an upstairs toilet sink and bath. Yes these things happen but the owners reaction told me this isn't the first time it's happened and I doubt it's been fixed due to plumbers not showing up. On the email we were sent prior to arriving afternoon tea was to be served and then dishes to be picked up 1-2 hours afterwards which never happened and we ended up washing dishes from afternoon tea and dinner which the majority was very disappointed with was cheapest of the cheap! We were told outdoors was a quiet zone but having neighbours complain about a few girls sitting on the benches having a coffee and a fag at 9am before getting picked up to go home is a joke! Only positive thing i can say is the girls who came in for the spa treatments were excellent very down to earth and chatty. After basically begging to get our deposit back safe to say I won't be back and if it wasn't for a great bunch of girls the weekend would have been crap! If you like a laugh and a good time I would defo not book here unless you want to be walking round on eggshells for the whole weekend!
The best thing about my stay here was the company. We had a good time but we constantly felt like we were being held to ransom over the deposit. It's a nice place and we made use of the facilities but it could be cleaner. It's right next door to residential apartments so you have to be quiet when outdoors. A few of the girls we went with smoked so went outside a lot, plus we had good weather, but you can't have a laugh without the fear of getting a complaint made and therefor lose your deposit. There were plumbing issues in the master bedroom ensuite and the other upstairs bathroom so we had 1 shower between 18 women! If you're in the master bedroom you have to vacate your room for most of the day while the massages etc are being done as that is the room they're done in. The plumber came during the treatments so he couldn't get in, he was supposed to come back later but he didn't. We weren't too impressed with the store bought cakes for the afternoon tea or the bland meal at night. The living room area has only 6 seats on the couches and a few bar stools in the kitchen area. No where near enough for our party of 18! If you think you're going to be a bit rowdy then go elsewhere or be prepared to lose your £400 deposit. If you can be really quiet then go for it.
Stayed here with a lovely group of ladies for a hen weekend. (Wee nunnery) beds are comfortable but 2 sets of bunk beds in 1 small room is not my idea of luxury. Black woolly robes that were not clean for your use, the one I picked stank of dampness... bring your own! Major plumbing problems which meant 18 ladies had 1 shower between them. I mopped up 2 buckets of water out the downstairs cupboard after the master bedroom shower flooded. Hey it gets better... Afternoon tea was laid out lovely in the dining room. Mr Kipling cakes" Aldi champagne and then we were left to wash the dishes. Please don't go out and chatter over breakfast at 9.30 in the morning as the neighbours complained they like a long lie on a Sunday as they have been working all week I could go on .... What I will say is if you want to go and have a rip roaring time be prepared to lose your £400 deposit. We held on to ours by the skin of our teeth as next door complained about noise ... It was a hen weekend for goodness sake !!!!! but because of the plumbing that never got fixed, she gave us it back.
Took 19 of my friends and family to The Old Nunnery for an early 50th birthday get together. What an amazing time we all had. The house is huge and has amazing views, especially sitting in the outside hot tub. Great rooms and was told that all the beds were comfy . Especially our large 4 poster in the large room. We decided on a hot buffet for the Friday and couldn't believe Debbie and her friend prepared it fresh in the kitchen. It was delish. We had champagne afternoon tea Saturday afternoon. The men got the bus to Largs (bus stop at the bottom of the drive really handy) . We where pampered getting back massages, eating fresh sandwiches , scones n cupcakes washed down with champagne. Debbie and her friends arrived Saturday evening to prepare a 6 course dinner which again was very tasty, had to get the recipe for the chicken dish for my friend, Lorna was so helpful and extremely friendly in her emails. We all felt so relaxed after our stay the steam room was fantastic, and are thinking of any excuse to book up again. The naughty nuns round the house and decor are perfect so much character. The pool room was great for the men to hang out. Was one of the best weekends we have had for a long time. Thanks again Lorna and Debbie and the treatment girls first class!!!
We have just spent the weekend at the Wee Nunnery celebrating my Mum and Aunties 50th birthday! There was 15 of us in total - all cousins, aunts and great aunts- and every one of us had a ball!
The house is fantastic! Very modern and absolutely huge! We opted for the 6 course meal and afternoon tea with Spa treatments to make our weekend extra special, and all of them were amazing! Could not fault a thing!
I would 100% recommend for all ages! We can't wait to book up again!
We visited The Wee Nunnery 15th September for my Hen Weekend and could not of wished for a better venue. We were amazed at how huge the smaller house is, I could not even imagine how big The Old Nunnery is. We took the karaoke down and had ourselves a Karaoke and a party, we never ended up leaving the house because it was just so amazing. The beds are extremely comfy, the Hot Tub is indoors and so so hot, the Sauna is incredible (best hangover cure). There is also a cinema room which is perfect for a karaoke with the big projector screen. We will 110% book this again for a girly weekend or even NYE. Lorna has been so helpful over the full process and has helped with all my questions and queries. Why can't we go back for the weekend !!!
