“Great venue for a hen do!”

We had a hen do weekend at The Old Nunnery over the Halloween weekend. We stayed for 2 nights and there were 17 of us. The rooms were lovely and the house had a cosy feel for its size. There is a beautiful view of the sea and it's even better admiring it from the hot tub! We had a murder mystery dinner on the Saturday night and Linda and Tom came to cook for us as part of the package. They were very accommodating, fitting in with our different 'acts' between courses. The food was also delicious and to a high standard, particularly considering the large number they were cooking for. We had a great weekend and would definitely recommend the venue.

“Fabulous venue for a large family gathering, with wonderful additions to make your stay more enjoyable.”
Reviewed October 6, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our brothers 60th birthday. What a wonderful house, spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, lovely modern showers and plenty of them. We were greeted by the lovely Linda who made us feel very welcome and explained everything we needed to know about where everything was and working of central heating and hot tub. We were then introduced to the therapists who performed our spa treatments. We all thoroughly enjoyed these. Only negative was the ladies who had manicures performed discovered that the nail polish lifted off the next day, perhaps a faulty batch.
The hot tub and games room suited all, great idea for a change of things to do. Fabulous location as within easy reach of Largs, if any one wants an ice cream or wander round the shops. On Friday we ordered Chinese carry out which came very quickly even with the large order for 18 people.
On Saturday we were treated to a wonderful 6 course dinner as the celebrations continued. Would certainly recommend this venue for any large group and would love to return in the future.

Liked best: Enough space within a comfortable house for large family gathering
Liked least: I could not get the window in our room open, but this was a minor problem.

Many thanks for a 5 star review, so glad you enjoyed. Sorry to see your comments about the manicures. This is not on our treatment list for a variety of reasons (it doesn't go well with hot tub use and it takes considerable drying time). However, we agreed to provide a file and polish for a few guests to accommodate your request and we actually purchased luxury brand products (Leighton Denny and OPI) specially for this one off occasion.

I hope to welcome you back at The Old Nunnery.

“Great House”

I stayed at the Old Nunnery with 20 ladies for my Daughters Hen weekend and it was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The ages ranged from 18>83 years and everyone had a wonderful time. The hot tub outside is fabulous with comfy robes and flip flops provided for our use, I had recently stayed at a house which had an indoor pool but found that over the weekend nobody used it, however we found at the Old Nunnery the hot tub was never empty right into the wee small hours. On the Saturday we all had 1/2 hour spa treatment and the two ladies who came in were excellent, very professional and knowledgeable in there field. The chef and a waitress came in on the Saturday night and cooked us a lovely six course meal which was served to us and all dishes cleared and washed up before they left. We had to choose a menu to suit everyone however four of the ladies including the bride did not like steak pie and the chef went next door to the owner who gave him four chicken breasts which he cooked to perfection in a peppercorn sauce. While the décor is the house is old, shabby chic I would say it was very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, beds were super comfy too. I would absolutely recommend this house to any large groups looking for a weekend away together whatever the occasion. For the price we paid individually for the full weekend and all the treats in store you could not find better value for money, we all thought it was very reasonable.

“Fantatic Venue for Hen do! We all loved it”

I stayed in the Old Nunnery on the 31st of July to the 2nd of Aug 2015 with 20 friends for my hen do. We all loved the house. The living area was spacious enough to fit us all in, with high ceiling and comfortable furniture. Being an old nunnery there was little quirks throughout the house which were fun. we all booked a treatment which can be included in the price (a facial or massage) both therapists were lovely and the massage was excellent. There are plenty of bathrooms and showers and all really modern which I wasn't expecting for an old house, this was great for 20 women and insured we weren't fighting for the bathroom at anytime. The kitchen was amazing huge with everything we needed, loved the modern fridge with the ice dispenser. We also had a 6 course meal on the saturday (again included in the price) a chef and waitress came in and cooked for all 20 of us, the food was excellent and both chef and waitress were really nice. The hot tub had excellent view of the sea, there is also a sound system built in. Lorna kept in contact with us throughout and answered all our questions. I cannot believe this house cost what it did....it is an absolute bargain, will recommend to al large groups you will not be disappointed. plus one lucky guest gets the big grand bedroom with 4 poster bed! x

“Fantastic accommodation and facilities”

We have stayed in other large accommodation for our large family and The Old Nunnery was brilliant. The living space and bedrooms were brilliant especially the master bedroom. The facilities of the games room and hot tub made the weekend even better and was well used. It was nice that the history of the place was kept within the character that has been created. Thank you to Lorna and her staff as we had a ball.

“Fun at the nunnery”

We had my daughters hen weekend at the nunnery last weekend. We had the best time ever from the treatments on the Friday, the hot tub, the visit to Nardinis in our tutus to having meal cooked on the Saturday night.
If I have any criticisms (very small) it was a little more time spent in the kitchen making sure plates and utelsils are clean and open packets of food are either disposed off or stored carefully. Also good idea would be to organise the kitchen drawers as it was difficult to find things.

Group of 12 of us for our annual Hootenanny trip, we were all very excited about our trip to The Nunnery, we were not disappointed.
The house is fantastic, spacious, large rooms, well equipped and lots of quirky references to Nuns. Lots of space in the bedrooms, those with the seaviews were very special as the views are wonderful.
Afternoon Tea all provided for our arrival was a lovely touch. Our beauty treatments were enjoyed by all, great facilities and our therapist Arlene fantastic.
We had the group meal Saturday night and chose the Scottish menu. Really appreciated that we all were able to enjoy a meal together without any of the group being missing in action in the kitchen!
The house has everything you need, kitchen well equipped for large groups although more mugs would be good! , Bar area extremely useful and well equipped too. Dining room a good size although 20 people might be a squeeze.
Hot tub in a great spot and very enjoyable. Bathrooms good, plenty of them.

If you have a dog, when leaving the drive turn left to go towards woodland walks, if you turn right its not so great as pavement for quite a while.

All in all, we really enjoyed our weekend and are presently organising to have our 2016 Hootenanny at the Old Nunnery again as the whole group loved it. Easy to get to, plenty of parking, tremendous views and lots of nice personal touches in the house. Cant wait!
