Stumbled arcross this wee gem of a place whilst on last few days of our Autumn break. Not your usual, in your face seaside eaterie, but up a close (Weat of Scotland expression for steep staircase) this restaurant offered wonderful sea views mached only by irs wonderful food. Here are the dishes we had: popadoms and spiced onions followed by a brilliant selection of pakoras, incl vegetable pakora, chicken wibgs and chicken strips with flavoursome dipping sauce. Mains were chicken Korma, divine, full of coconut and the most succulent chicken ever. We also had chicken Patiah, heavenly sauce, beautifully spiced, divine. Served with 2 portions of rice and naan of your choice, ours was plain. Service was efficient and personal, but not rushed. Enjoyed so much we went back 2 days later for a repeat and were not disappointed. All of this for an outstanding, unbelievable, wait for it, £8.50 per person!!!!!! This maybe due to us eating before 5pm, but still worth checking out this little gem.

Although a little 'tired' decor wise, this restaurant provided everything we needed. A great curry and plenty of it. Have been there on a couple of trips and can't fault it.

Just your run of the mill Indian, the buffet area is a little bit cramped but the food is well done ans any chicken dishes were not just dipped in sauce but properly marinated ,this establishment has your traditional booths which I'm sad to say is sorely becoming a thing of the past, the main reason we like to eat here is the restaurant is up a flight of stairs,so no good for wheelchair users but on the other hand ,it affords great views with its large glass frontage, booking a window seat is prob the best, good food ,nice ambience attentive staff and also it is licensed not like the other main Indian in the town.

We've been going to this curry shop for years and you can generally rely on it for a decent meal. But what makes this restaurant different is the super view over the Largs harbour, the ferries coming and going, the Firth of Clyde, Argyll and the islands of Bute and Cumbrae. It is truly impressive.

Our latest visit was on a Monday evening - so not exactly busy - and the menus needed a bit of freshening up - they looked years old - but the service was efficient, the curries good and the beer was Cobra.

Don't be put off by the grubby stairs leading up to the Star of India. Once inside the decor is fine and the restaurant itself looks in reasonable condition - and the view is well worth the climb.
