“Shockingly Poor!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

What can i say, my Partner had booked a two nights stay at the stotfield for the 25 and 26th of June, I had read some of the previous comments but decided to go anyway.
We were both looking forward to our break as we both work very hard and very long hours. When we arrived at the hotel it looked ok,from the outside the receptionist was friendly and welcoming, but when we got into our room 111 what a shock we got, firstly we noticed a terrible musty smell that was very unplesent and very strong. There was paint peeling from the walls and the ceiling , the raidiator was broken the room was very very cold, the bathroom fittings where coming away from the wall and the tv was very outdated with no wifi in the room either.
But the worst thing about the experience was that when i pulled back the bottom sheet to look at the mattress it was very very very badly stained, I dread what bodily fluids they were but that mattress should have been condemed i have photos that are to follow. at this point i new i could not stay in the hotel and went down tell the receptionist. Bless her she did offer us another room but when i went to view it it was exactly the same as the room we were in but colder, at this point my partner and I packed our bags and left the hotel, we subsequently had to drive around to find accomadation. at this point i would like to thank Nigel at the premier inn in elgin for finding us somewhere to stay.

Room Tip: There isnt any tip i can give.

The hotel has put a huge effort into the new menu and the sizzling hot rock steaks are a treat. The views of the Moray coast are lovely and the staff very very friendly - everything is no bother. Portions are very large and salad deliciously fresh. .

Room Tip: front facing

We stayed in a sea view room. Yes it is a little tired in places but we didn't expect 5 star hotel accomomadation for the price we paid. It is a very old building that has been bought up to the standard that you would expect for a 3 star hotel. It was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The quality of the food was excellent at both dinner and breakfast. We will be back for another visit sometime soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room if possible

We went on a round trip in Scotland and had many beautiful B&B-stays. This one was the worst (out of 7 others)!

Positive things: beautiful location at beach front, nice and comfortable foyer, bathroom was cleaned up ok.
Negative things: We booked a room with sea-view, which we had - however through a window covered with bird droppings :-). Curtains were not fixed properly and nearly came down, towels were worn out and thin, carpets were old, breakfast room was old and paint on the walls were peeling as well as you could see old water stains on the wall.

Definitively, this place must have been a beautiful place, - in former times.... I feel sorry, there does not seem to be enough money and manpower to renovate this place. I do not think, it should be rated as a three star hotel at the moment.

Lossiemouth is a beautiful little place still holding it's own, despite hard times, and sharing the northern coastal shelf with places like Findhorn and Burghead. The Stotfield Hotel holds pride of place overlooking the golf course and the magical West Beach. A handsome, but not pompous exterior gives way to comfortable lounge and reception area which extends to include a larger dining/ breakfast and bar area. My room was at the rear looking onto a street, which was fine for this occasion, and was of a good size and proportion. The bedding and laundry all clean and comfortable. My only small gripe would be the dated large TV and very poor shower. All in, a very comfortable and welcoming place with very good and helpful staff.

The stuff that nightmares are made of....Scooby Doo stayed in places like this.....worn carpets, peeling paint, naff cheap furniture and windows covered in dead flies and bird droppings to obscure your sea-view, curtains that are faded and worn and don't stop any light coming in.......and all for £70.00. There's better places than this to spend your hard earned money and get your head down.
Lossiemouth looks a decent place and the Lossie Fish and Chip shop went someway to putting a smile on my face with the excellent F and C and cheerful staff; the hotel though is a DEFINITE miss.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.
