“Good, well priced food”
Reviewed February 23, 2012

The Grill Room at Knockomie Hotel might be outside of Forres but is worth the drive. The main menu is well priced with local produce and there's also the option of a 'Winter Warmer' during certain periods, with 2 courses and a bottle of wine for £40. We went for the mains as this offered more choice and generally starters around £6 and mains £13 or thereabouts, offered plenty of quality for your pound.

The chicken broth was excellent, the bread could have been better and wasn't homebaked yet the broth more than made up for this. The mains of char grilled chicken with Arran Mustard mash and whisky jus was flavoursome and a hearty portion. My own slow cooked featherblade of MacBeth's beef, horseradish mashed potato and roast root vegetables was just as good. Rounding off the meal was a chocolate fondant as it should be, and a pear, apple and mincemeat crumble with vanilla custard.

Good service, a relaxed environment in nice surroundings. Overall a thumbs up.
