“A little bit of heaven in Forres ...”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

We laughed from the moment we arrived to the moment we left; Jules and Lloyd are an extremely hard working double-act; clearly this is a vocation, not a job for them.

Jules' welcome was warm, Lloyd's food was fantastic, the pillows and beds were very comfortable, the bedroom lovely and airy (and not too far from the bar) the house having been lovingly restored. Truly a home from home.

We love this part of the world, and when we come back again we'll be staying at Cluny Bank Hotel.

Based upon the numerous 5-star reviews and the Trip Advisor photos, we decided to stay at the Cluny Bank Hotel. The rooms were nice, quite spacious and very well decorated. The bathroom was also sufficient, with the exception of a loose towel rack, which abruptly banged the bedroom wall and disturbed what would have otherwise been a very pleasant night’s sleep. Breakfast was freshly made and the cook was eager to accommodate menu substitutions. Unfortunately, we didn’t arrive to the hotel until 19.30, so we missed the chance to have dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. However, we ended up eating at the Mosset Tavern and had a fantastic meal. The Mosset featured great food, a fantastic staff and very good prices.

Overall, the hotel was nice and the owners were amiable, but it just missed the mark on a 5-star (Excellent) rating. However, the Cluny Bank Hotel definitely earned a 4-star (Very Good) rating—and anyone traveling to Forres, should consider staying here.

Thank you for your positive comments. Although we do have mostly 5 star reviews on here we do know that we are not perfect and would never presume to be.
I am sorry about the towel rail, I was not aware of this and was not mentioned on your departure but upon reading this review I immediately went and secured the rail to the wall. I am assuming that you might have been woken by the rail falling down as could not find any rattling or banging even with it being loose but many thanks for bringing this to our attention in this review.
I am also sorry that we could not accommodate you in the restaurant but this was not due to it being late at 7.30pm. We did in fact have a table available for 2 guests for you but as you also had your daughter with you, which we were unaware of, at this time we already had guests dining in the restaurant and we could not at this point change the dining room around to accommodate the three of you without having to move the tables our guests were already sat at.
Really glad you enjoyed your meal at the Mosset Tavern, they have a great reputation for their food and hospitality and hope that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday in Scotland

A warm Welcome! A good position to visit the Highlands.Fantastic food sourced locally. This stay was a gastronomic delight! Every meal was very good. The choice of wines were affordable.
Forres is an intersting town full of interesting architecture and a great butcher's shop off the main street. 2 distilleries to visit too!

Had a good nights sleep. We really enjoyed our 2 days and experienced eating meat that I haven't eaten before - Silva Deer, smoked eel, smoked grouse...........................mmmm
Recommend this Hotel - a gem!

There cannot be a better place to stay for those looking to avoid the cookie cutter approach of modern hotels, than Cluny Bank. Located just minutes from city centre in Forres, this restored 19th Century estate is all about atmosphere and enjoyment. Operated lovingly by a husband and wife pair, it is located up a hillside in a tree-lined residential neighborhood. The view looking up the hill to the hotel from street level parking is majestic. The owner is a 5-star chef and the food is among the best to be found anywhere. It is worth visiting just for the food. The front-facing bar/sitting area to the adjacent dining room look out into a forest of evergreen trees. The bedrooms are well appointed and understandably quaint in keeping with the period of the building, but the bathrooms are as modern as can be. This place is fantastic and is recommended to all except those who insist on street level access, lifts to upper floors, or 21st Century atmospherics. All others will love the stay and the food.

A weekend visit to Cluny Bank for a birthday and every bit as good as our last visit in October 2011.

Fantastic hospitality and service from Jules.

Only one word can describe Lloyds cooking - sublime! This is a talented master of the culinary arts. His descriptions of dessert display his passion for food.

Cant recommend Cluny Bank, Jules and Lloyd highly enough - a must visit place

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, nothing was too much trouble for owners. The home made fudge was a lovely touch in our room when we arrived, breakfast was always a pleasure and even though we needed to leave early one morning to go and watch the golf event, the owners were happy to get up a bit earlier to ensure that we had a cooked breakfast. Its not a cheap place, but pay a bit extra and come here because you wont regret it.
