Lovely family run hotel. Jules and Lloyd are great hosts who provide great service to guests. The room was spacious with nice original features.

The gem in this hotel is the food. Lloyd is a talented chef. Taking great local produce and turning out what I would consider to be five star food. His passion for food comes through on the plate. We both had lamb. One asked for rare the other for med rare. Both plates delivered to the desired cooking - a talent I have rarely found. Lloyds deserts were superb. We finished off our meal in the comfortable bar where there is an extensive selection of fine malts.

Breakfast was also lovely. We had the full Scottish.

Overall a great hotel with outstanding food.

This is simply and quite possibly one of the best country hotels we have ever stayed in. The other reviews extolling Lloyd's culinary expertise say it all. Your meals are up there in the top 10 best we have had the pleasure of experiencing Lloyd, and coupled with your enthusiasm (floor show?) means we had a wonderful evening's dining.
As for the Queen Betty suite - it is a very special place with exquisite taste in interior decoration and such a wonderfully comfortable sleep.
The range of local Benromach whiskies in your bar is there to be enjoyed - we certainly did.
Your hotel will be the reason we revisit Speyside sooner rather than later.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I had high expectations of our stay due to previous reviews on Trip Advisor and I was not disappointed. My partner and I travelled with my Mother, who is 84, and Lloyd and Julia, the owners, made us all so welcome that it will be a holiday hard to beat and indeed forget. We had chosen the Garden Room, now called Balchens Den, which was both cosy & spacious with its own entrance. Mum had the Anderson Room, situated on the ground floor, which is marketed as a Double, but ideal for a single traveller wishing to be on the ground floor for ease of access. Each evening we met in the warm and cosy bar for pre-dinner drinks, where we were able to chat to Lloyd, Julia and other guests whilst perusing their most sumptuous menu and wine list. Each meal, and we dined in the Restaurant on all three of our evenings, was superbly balanced, varied and the litle 'treats' also served to us, kept us guessing. Even the sizzling vegetable platter added to the pleasure. However, the real highlight was Lloyd explaining with such joy and passion what delights he had prepared for dessert - and they were every bit as good as his descriptions too. Our three days were packed with interesting and varied things to do in the area and as the notice in the car park implores 'Haste ye back', we most certainly will! If you want all the comforts of home and more, coupled with great hosts and exceptional food, look no further. (A cautionary note on the area however, if using a Sat Nav to locate some tourists spots, you may care to have a back-up map. We were hopelessly lost on a couple of occasions).

A cosy and attractive stone built building full of character and charm this small family run hotel has one aim - pleasing their customers. We arrived fairly late in the evening and were met with a truly genuine welcome from the hosts and then the chef rolled off a long list of dishes that he was prepared to conjure up for us.

The room we were given was a bit dated but clean and certainly spacious - the owners are slowly redecorating all the rooms but trying hard to keep the charm of the building intact. The bar is perfect if you just want to unwind after a day in the hills or returning from sightseeing but don’t expect to be ignored. Sit in a comfy armchair next to the wood burning fire and savour a wee dram and a few nibbles. Again this is a cosy room and you can’t help feeling like old friends with the hosts and other guests.

The real crème de la crème from this hotel is the dining. We asked for a table at the window, which was duly arranged but don’t expect palatial surroundings in the dining room. Very well laid out and professionally done but prepare yourself for quality on the plate. The food is exquisite! All locally sourced produce so the menu is never totally fixed but I would wager that there would always be something for everyone available. Not cheap if all you want is food but certainly a bargain if you enjoy quality. One guest asked if they could have Scottish lobster for the following day and they were not disappointed! Nothing is too difficult! There is no sweet menu as the chef will come to your table and describe what he has to offer. A perfect way to finish off the meal and move on to coffee served in the bar.

The only downside we could describe is the hotel being built on a hill and with it a steep drive to the entrance or a fairly steep walk up from the lower car park if you are less able. That said the hosts would be down like a shot to assist with any shopping or suitcases.

Would I stay again – definitely. Would I recommend the hotel – without hesitation. Best attribute – the cuisine; one of the best restaurants in the whole of Moray and probably competing with the best of Scotland.

My wife and I stayed three nights bed, breakfast, and dinner. Don't do it any other way. Not cheap, but a real bargain for the quality. It's a lovely little hotel in a historic building in one of the loveliest areas in Scotland. But the real attraction here is Lloyd's food. At breakfast, the eggs with Scottish salmon is the best I have ever had, made with a tarragon oil drizzle that works brilliantly. The dinners are extraordinary. Lloyd is a terrific chief, but more than that, he is so anxious to please that he will get or do anything to make guests happy. Because we were having dinner all three nights, he made special arrangements to get fresh wild salmon for our second night and guinea fowl for our third night - neither of which was on the regular menu. You should also know that Lloyd (who is English) is crazy: he told us so himself upon our arrival and then proceeded to prove it, but his insanity mainly takes the form of a compulsive desire to make his guests' experience as good as it can be. So if you are looking for a stodgy kind of experience, don't stay here. On the other hand, if you want something very special, with outstanding food, this is about as good as we have seen in more than 30 years of visiting Scotland.

Well, from the moment you are greeted by Lloyd and Julia you are welcomed to their home with unbounded enthusiasm. Our room was well appointed with period features and very comfortable (which helped a lot since I walked the 45 miles of the Wolftrek charity walk using CB as my base). The restaurant is discrete with only guests or pre-booked tables available. Chef's knowledge and skills are evident from the outset and each course is explained in intricate detail, tempered by Julia reminding him that he has to retreat to the kitchen sometimes! The Lounge is intimate and we were lukcy to be joined by Lloyd and Julia for after-dinner banter and story-telling.
So, if you want 400 identical rooms, uniformed staff and headed-paper, go somewhere else.
If you want sincere attention, excellent food and a damn good stay, then Cluny Bank MUST be your destination!
