We spent the Easter weekend here with an elderly relative and were favorably impressed by the friendly staff and individually decorated and comfortable bedrooms, in some cases giving onto the lawn through French doors. The food in the dining room was very acceptable without being exceptional, though it was a bit difficult to see what one was eating after dusk - one tealight on the table is not really enough. The bedrooms had tea making facilities and past-their-sell-by-date biscuits. The hotel is right on the edge of town, on the main road out of Forres to Grantown on Spey, great for visiting whisky distilleries. We arrived from Grantown and had some difficulty finding the entrance, as the signs visible when coming from that direction had blown down in a January gale and not been replaced.

We stayed at this hotel on 30th September and had a most enjoyable experience. Our room was very well equipped and comfortable , the staff excellent , and the food a very high standard. In particular our vist to the 'Malt Library ' was made a particular pleasure by the very knowledgeable and attentive barman/night porter. We will definately return the next time we head for the east coast.

Lovely hotel on the outskirts of Forres. Booked in for business with a few colleages. Very friendly and personalised service. The manager John is a star and all the staff was extremely helpful and smiled! An absolute delight and something you unfortunately don't see that much in other hotels. We kept the staff up till really late (sorry...) with a late night drinking session in the cosy lounge/bar with my colleages and even then the service was exceptional. Where can you find a hotel that is happy to help you with some fresh milk for making tea in the room at about 3am(!) Would recommend this hotel to anyone and like to thank the staff and owners for a great stay!

I booked a night away here as a Bank Holiday treat for myself and my husband, and we were very disappointed. Originally quoted £210 a night for one of the four poster rooms,(The Benromach) then they rang back and offered £150, which is still a huge amount for bed and breakfast. We were expecting a bit of luxury for that. First impressions: worn carpets, horrible 70s style doors. The room smelled freshly painted, so it may well have been recently refurbished. The four poster was wobbly, the room was sparsely furnished, the window frames needed a good scrub and the bathroom was awful - pokey, and very cheaply kitted out. The wardrobe doors, were, again, very 70s-ish. It was definitely not in the style of a Scottish country house (although this room is supposed to be 'colonial' in style - hardly!) Absolutely no nice little touches to justify the price - fresh flowers would have been nice, maybe a little chocolate.

We stayed for dinner. The choice was very limited - three choices each for starter, main course and dessert, plus a selection of steaks - and at £38 per head, not including coffee, very expensive. The quality was distinctly average, and the bread served with the starter was stale!

Knockomie Hotel doesn't have great views - our room looked out over a new and ugly housing estate - but they can't help that. However, the gardens are very neglected. The owners need to sort them out, and a line of leylandii to hide the houses (the land has been cleared for phase 2, which will come right up to the fence of the hotel grounds) would be a great idea.

The young waiting and reception staff were extremely friendly, but when we went down for dinner there was nobody around, despite our having booked a table for dinner at a pre-arranged time, and we had to look for staff to show us to a table.

All in all, an expensive night at a hotel which needs serious investment if it is to justify its prices. Sorry, won't be going back!!
