Owner description: Located on the outskirts of the ancient market town of Forres lies Benromach Distillery. From a small and almost lost distillery emerged a single malt withdistinctive qualities reflecting its hand made credentials as well as encapsulating the self-reliance, sophistication and modern values of Scotland today.Established in 1898, the distillery experienced many closures and changes in ownership prior to 1993, when malt whisky specialists, Gordon & MacPhail rescued it. Following an extensive reinstallation project, embracing the distillery's original character, Benromach was officially re-opened by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1998.Just three experienced distillers create Benromach using the finest Scottish barley and the purest spring water from the nearby Romach Hills. They personally ensure that only the highest quality spirit is filled into sturdy oak casks before being left to mature at Benromach Distillery for many years.

“Unexpected visit, perfect tour.”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

We were actually on our way to a different whisky distillery when we came across Benromach so thought we would pop in. We were glad we did! We had a little wait for the next tour but were made welcome by the 2 tour guides, who chatted to us while we waited. The distillery is the smallest in Speyside and was a lovely one to see. We were given a personal, detailed tour and found it fascinating. When we went back for the tasting we were taught how to properly drink the whisky and learnt how to add water to it without killing it. We were also given a taste of the 30 year old whisky as a wedding gift, something we were not expecting but matches the care and attention that goes into making their guests feel welcome. If you are in this area then I would definitely recommend this distillery.

“Great tour and tasting”
Reviewed October 9, 2013 via mobile

A small, intimate distillery with a tour and tasting to match. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. If you are a whisky lover and in the area be sure to stop. It is well signed off the A 96.

Great little distillery.. All very friendly, personal tour with lots of information - they know what they are doing. Don't miss filling your own personalised bottle.. Take pics there as well.. Nice choice of whisky to buy. Do go there. There is no cafe but just drive the 5min to Findhorn and go to the Kimberley Inn , sit by the sea and have a wee dram..

“Another one not to miss out”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

Been to many distilleries, but this one affirmed again the idea that the smaller ones are the better, at least if if comes to tours and staff.
This one is one of the last remaining independent ones, so no "no-photo" policy and all the other big-player rubbish. This is a real tour with a guide who knows the stuff as he likes it and a photo on the corridor wall proved that he was already working there some 30+ years ago.
The Whisky is very nice as well, well balanced and a must have for any serious collection.
They open on Sundays and there is ample (free) parking, but no cafe/restaurant.
We have only seen one little brown signpost on the main road, so quite easy to overlook.

“Best in Scotland”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Sandy was our tour guide and he did an amazing job of showing us around and explaining the operation. We had been on other tours but, this was by far the best of the bunch. His knowledge of the distilling process was outstanding and reflected his many years of experience. We took the Essential Tour and it was worth every penny. Would do it again when they get some older product. The young stuff has potential but, not quite there yet.
