“A real pub in Scotland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

Visited here for the third time in the last year as a lunch stop off en route to Buckie from Inverness.Previous visits have been stop offs in between business appointments. This time I took my wife because I had liked the cosy feel, great welcome, real ale and great food. As before today's visit was a delight. The owner greets you warmly and enthusiastically in an authentic way, natural and unforced. This is the key to any hospitality business, and where too many Scottish establishments fall down. We relaxed in great surroundings immediately. The decor is traditional and in very good order. I think a previous reviewer ( who needed warm bread roles apparently) was a potential rogue (could he be from a rival establishment ?).....don't believe what he is saying because this place did not win Scottish Country Inn of the Year 2012 for nothing ! We were in a hurry so had soup and sandwich. The home made bread is a revelation (much better than rolls !!)' filling of chicken bacon and mayo fresh and salad crunchy. Simple food brilliantly executed. Previously I have had the Scottish Tapas, unique and delicious and uniquely presented on tiered dishes...creative. We have booked Sunday lunch for later this week and are looking forward to road testing the roast. This place is a little gem and needless to say the owner takes pride as a genuine cellar man, offering great old and new ales, describing them with interest and enthusiasm, particularly emphasising local breweries. This guy( I will soon know his name) really knows what he is doing, and other supposed "landlords" could learn a lot from him. Deserves every success, go there and then recommend to your friends ! Cheers and thank you

“Excellent food at the Old Mill”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

Stayed at the Old Mill at Brodie for 3 nights in January, what can I say, but excellent all around, the rooms were spotless, newly refurbished and very comfortable, with an excellent assortment of teas coffee etc. Breakfast was worth waiting for with a choice do cereals, fruit and a wonderful Scottish full breakfast. We had our evening meal in the restaurant and if possible the meals were even better than breakfast, I can fully recommend the wild boar sausages. The service was fast and efficient and Kevin the owner went out of his way to see that we had every thing we needed and was very kind to us as we were attending a family bereavement. I would highly recommend The Old Mill.

“Average but could be great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

Friendly staff, good size restaurant & food good. However it's overpriced & decor is very old fashioned & needs updated. It could be updated but still keep that rustic old feel.

Food could be improved to help entice people to go that extra journey to eat there as there are a lotof places nearby home which are much better. Put warm rolls & butter on the table for people to nibble before ordering, adds a nice touch.

“Excellent friendly service and food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

I ate here recently on a Saturday night with a group of 6. The place has a cosy feel to it with friendly staff. There is a decent menu with a large choice of specials on a black board. I had the monk fish in chorizo with Black pudding and scallops which was delicious. Every one else in my group had lovely looking food and there were huge portions (the fish and chips in particular). Would highly recommend eating here.
