If you are visiting dobbies I wouldn't bother with there food hall as you will get a far superior meal at the Melville inn which is just next to them, polite service great staff and food that is top notch at a good price, this is a inn that is selling top quality meals at pub prices, don't expect to get small portions. This inn has got things right in every way, good atmosphere and perfect for families or couples.

Last nite it was our company Xmas party nite, food to be served at 7.30pm didn't start until 8.15pm, battered mushrooms were like concrete, the steak casa role had been microwaved to long that it was over cocked, the apple pie and custered was OK, bar closed at 11pm no entertainment. Probably the worst nite out for a long time.

This is one of these 'olde worlde' farmhouse restaurants which spring up overnight on the outskirts of most cities a la Brewers Fayre/Beefeater/Toby Carvery. BUT, I love the cosy seating, low rafters, horse brasses, rural scene paintings, etc. Staff have always been very attentive and helpful, but service does depend on how busy the place is - same everywhere! Big plus is range of food. You can take your granny and she will find a traditional meal that she likes, while you enjoy a curry and the wife has a pasta. How fresh all this food is is another matter, but it certainly tastes fine. No-one goes to a place like this looking for haute cuisine!

The huge open fires give a initial sense of welcome and the food and experience deliver.
Plain, no nonsense food. Children royally welcomed. Very reasonable.
French Onion Soup divine

Had a superb family lunch at the Melville Inn today after taking a Xmas wreath to Mortonall. The restaurant was extremely busy but food and service were excellent even though it was so busy. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful and we shall certainly make a return visit very soon. Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Many thanks
