Stopped here for a quck lunch and was not disappointed.
Simple menu but the food was excellent.
Nice views and the staff could not have been nicer. On a Saturday lunch it was very busy but was in no way slow.
Will go back next time we are on Arran!

Consistent excellent quality from this restaurant - lovely seasonal & local produce, with conservatory dining area directly over looking a sandy beach.

After a morning & early afternoon expedition all we wanted simple sustenance in pleasant surroundings - Coast in Whiting Bay seemed ideal: situated on the sea front with a conservatory almost on the pebble beach and advertising "freshly prepared fayre", "welcoming and friendly service" and a "choice of eating in the main restaurant or in the conservatory". Arriving at 2.50pm and we asked to sit in the conservatory but we were told it was closed as the tables had cutlery set for the evening meals - yet the afternoon service still had more than an hour to run before the two hour siesta shut down (how much time do they need to lay a few tables?). So we had to make do with the low ceilinged main room with no views. We orderered soup and a roll plus coffee. "Cauliflower and corn" soup was the soup of the day. It looked like thick wallpaper paste, had practically no flavour but was liberally seasoned with some sort of fiery spice which tested my palate even though I normally like spicy food. My companion found the spiciness unbearably strong and and had to give up after only a small amount. At the end the manager looked at the half consumed food and asked how we found it but on being told it was over spiced all he could offer was "Oh" and a bill for £10. No, this place is not what claims for itself in terms of food quality, friendly service or choice of seating.

Footnote: A few days later we found ourselves 10 miles away in Coast in Brodick: what a difference - the staff had real welcoming humour, the sandwiches were first class, a pleasant experience.. the only common feature was the name... 'Coast'.

Dear Haggistraveller91,

I'm sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your visit to our restaurant, however, I would like to point out some inaccuracies within your review that should be stated to 'set the record straight'.

You did indeed enter the restaurant at 2.50pm - and at the time of entering the restaurant you were advised that the conservatory area was unavailable due to the fact that that area was being set up for evening service (a powercut had been experienced in the Whiting Bay area for around an hour before you arrived - and owing to the fact that no food could be sold, a decision was made by myself (co-owner and manager) that instead of staff standing about doing nothing, then we could prepare ourselves for evening (in the hope that the power supply would indeed be back on by then). The offer was made to you to sit anywhere else in the 'main' restaurant area - where there are plenty of tables that still have that wonderful seaview, however you decided to sit in a corner bereft of any view other than the pleasant surroundings of the restaurant. You more or less indicate that the soup was inedble within your review - I would wholeheartedly refute that. You actually dont even state the correct soup that you received - for clarification it was Cream of Cauliflower, and from feedback from every other customer that day - they enjoyed it! Every customer is asked if everything is ok with their food and experience - if you had actually stated that there was a problem when you were asked, we would have done something to remedy that - however, you did not - instead you choose to write an extremely negative and factually inaccurate review. I would also add that the amount charged was completely correct - two soups with bread - £3.25 each, and two coffees at £2.00 each - that would equate to £10.50......extremely good value compared to other establishments both on and off the island. It certainly would appear that you can't please all of the people all of the time....and in this instance I dont really think we would have stood a chance of pleasing you.

Regards,

Russell Lee

Delightful eatery in Whiting Bay with a great choice of main courses and lighter meals. We opted for the Panini, I had the Brie and Cranberry and my husband had the Black Pudding one, we both really enjoyed them and the coleslaw was the best I have ever tasted (in fact I don't usually like it). Fabulous views and really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Shame it was our last day as we would definitely have gone back for more.

Stopped off on our tour for a coffee and piece of cake. The chaps that served us were lovely and really friendly - nice atmosphere. Got a table with a spectacular view of the water and over to the Holy Isle - definitely to back.
