Back to the beautiful isle for another super holiday. Not only did we have amazing weather but we also discovered one of our favourite guest houses in Scotland. The food was to die for and we were sad to leave our lovely room 'Pippin'. We were made to feel very welcome and we're now counting down the days till we can return!

Apple Lodge was our first stopover on a five day walk around Arran's Coastal Path.
The situation is lovely, the breakfast was probably the best we had, but oh, when we stepped in the front door, the smell of smoke was appalling. As non smokers, unused to smoky atmospheres, this was a great problem. The smell of smoke permeated the bedrooms and clung to clothing. I think that enquiring potential clients should be alerted to this before booking is confirmed.

We'd spent a week travelling Scotland staying in assorted B&Bs and hostels and were worried that we might not be able to find accommodation in Arran during peak season.

After a little ringing around we found Apple Lodge who had only their "suite" available. We didn't really require that much space so we weren't sure at first but with nothing else available we said yes. It turned out that it was far more than just a suite - it's a self contained apartment. We were delighted. The place was spotless and comfortable and the people were extremely welcoming. Great breakfast too.

After a week on the road it felt like living in the comfort over your own home once more. Lochranza is also my favourite corner of Arran.

This little place is situated a short walk from Arran's only distillery and the quaint little harbour. Deer mooch around the area and you are likely to catch site of a sea eagle!

The accommodation was comfortable but the room (and the house) suffers from a slight odour of smoke and a vast array of knick knacks on every surface. Despite this, it is clean and well presented and the cooked-to-order breakfast is sure to fill you up!

Apple Lodge has the qualities of a very good guest house- welcoming, and very much reflecting the feel of a nice family home. Lovely breakfasts, and extras like home made biscuits made you appreciate you woulldn't get this in a bigger establishment.
Lochranza is a very attractive village to stay in. Its at the more scenic but less populated end of Arran, and though there are some 'visitor attractions' such as the distillery, don't expect many eating out options. Jeannie and John don't do evening meals in high season, and for us the best of a very limited choice was Stags pavilion
Though remote, Apple Lodge is on a bus route if your'e not travelling by car, and numerous people appreciated the beauty of cycling on Arran.

We stayed at the Apple Lodge for several nights for our anniversary. It was very comfortable in a chintzy sort of way, The room was well decorated and had a pleasant outlook. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Dinner was available at that time, which is necessary as the dining options in Lochranza are very limited. A good option if you want to stay on this side of the island.
