We visited Arran while the snow was still melting, and the welcome certainly warmed us up! We had a wonderful dinner here and were spoilt for choice by the menu, arguing over who was trying what so that we could taste! The portion sizes left us sharing dessert and feeling very full at the end of the meal. It amazes us how such excellent food and such variety can be produced from such a small kitchen, with home - made cakes and sweets on offer. I don't think any part of our food was "bought-in", it was all made on the premises. Definite Scottish-Italian theme and great quality.

Stags is ok but nothing special. The food is reasonable without being at a standard to feel it is an occasion to dine there. I guess it is similar in style and presentation to seaside diners with special rates for older customers. The service is quite energetic, as staff are quite busy, with much rushing about. The menu is maybe Scotish/ Italian, if you use your imagination. Portions are fine and certainly, it is not in anyway a poor experience but, in my opinion, there are better options in this part of Arran. It is well worth booking, as Stags is located on a caravan and camping site and is the only food option, unless you are prepared to drive or walk about three quarters of a mile or just over a km.

We stayed in Lochranza for a week and were given a recommendation by family. What a lovely little restaurant - authentic Italian cuisine in a most unexpected location. The restaurant doesn't look much from the outside - it's a large mobile home with a veranda added along the front, but inside it has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I assume our hostess was the owner and her husband the chef. She couldn't have been more friendly and the service first class. The food was authentic home cooked Italian that tasted great. I had a superb freshly made pasta dish to start with a venison main course - delicious. The creme brûlée with blackberries was spot on and even the coffee was superb. Everyone else at the table enthused about their dinner including the kids. No license means you need to bring your own booze, but there's no corkage to pay. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough - do try it if you are in Arran - you won't be disappointed!

In what looks like a wooden chalet, the permanent "Fully booked this evening" sign was a clue to the standard of food on offer. We arrived on Saturday, and tried to book for the following Friday - without success, so if you want to eat here, book early. There are only 30 covers, and just one sitting, although you can arrive any time between 6.30 and 8.30, and leave when you are ready. There is no licence, so you bring your own bottle of wine - there is no charge for this, which is a great surprise.
We had 3 starters, 4 main courses and 3 desserts for a very reasonable £70. Pheasant and venison were on the menu, plus wonderfully cooked roast beef and seafood linguine. Soup was great, desserts were wonderful and if you were uninspired by the dessert menu, you could choose from a spectacular choice of cakes, because this restaurant is open during the day as a tea-room. If you can't wait till then, they offer cooked breakfasts from 10am. Something for everyone.

Im not sure about the rave reviews. This was a place with decent enough food but many things on the menu were not for me.
