My gorgeous new husband and I decided to extend our honeymoon with a short break to my beloved Isle of Arran! We rang to book this hotel and we were asked if it ws for a special occassion, we said it was our honeymoon and were told by the hotel that we could have the honeymoon suite. We had room number 8 which was the end of the suites nearest the beach. It had a balcony and huge corner french windows from which the views were amazing. The room had under floor heating (note: dont buy Arran cheese and bring it to your room as the floor melts it!!) and was very plush with all the mod cons you would expect. The staff were all very friendly and could not do enough to help us with any queries we had. However it would seem that the breakfast menu is an option between cereal/porrige OR continental OR full cooked breakfast unlike the usual help yourself to cereal then get a cooked breakfast after as im sure many are use to in other hotels so if you are hungry make sure you dont ask for cereal and expect a cooked breakfast after!! We never ate in the restaurant at the hotel but it does offer both a restaurant menu and bar meals. However there are many other very good hotels and restaurants not too far away to try we can personally recommend The Pierhead Tavern in Lamlash, The Sannox Bay Hotel in Sannox and The Lagg Hotel in Kilmory we had fantastic meals in all of these during this stay.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Kildonan Hotel and on both occasions I had a great stay. The hotel staff were so helpful, flexible, attentive and professional. We were given the use of the restaurant for our art class for the entire weekend, without any problems. The rooms were perfect especially after the refurbishment...clean, tidy and modern. Both the Bar and the Restaurant food were very good and I cannot fault the service in any way. I have stayed in many hotels in many countries, of varying quality and I can say without hesitation, that the Kildonan, in terms of value for money, location, service and cleanliness could not be faulted. Thankyou, again, for a wonderful weekend.

I would like to thank Anne, Rod and all the Staff at the Kildonan on the 2nd August 2008 who made our wedding so perfect. The organisation was fantastic everything ran like clockwork, there was nothing i can fault. The Food was amazing what a fantastic choice of top quality food and to be able to provide the choice and quality of food for such a large wedding party was amazing. People were commenting for weeks after about the meal. The dining room looked amazing with just the right amount of flowers and balloons all taken care of by Anne, but the panoramic views from the dining room are the real draw to this location, we sat in here eat dinner and watched the sun go down. We were blessed with a sunny day which made the day even more lovely we were able to have the champagne reception in the garden and beach, and got some amazing wedding photos by Tom Gibson photography. We stayed in suite 8 which is the best room!! fantastic suite with a balcony and sea views. Also eat in the bar and the resturant over the following days and couldn't fault the food there either. Keep up the Good Work Anne, Kindest Regards Susan and John.

Shower head was filthy, rubber seal on shower screen was black, hairs in the bath. Extractor fan in ensuite bath room not working and when reported to reception went unacknowledged. No iron in room-sent to use laundry room which was a serious health and safety hazard -extention cables everywhere and boxes and furniture strewn across path way-and from a cleanliness point of view reinforced our opinion of the room. Breakfast unavailable till 08:30. Yes staff were friendly but ineffective. Rubber heel guards on floor since previous guests. Barbecue food was on offer but not visually appealing and put us off the concept of dining in. Definately over priced and would at the very least expect at that price to be able to iron my clothes in safety. Room was small and lay out meant that it was not feasible to watch TV from bed. It would have been nice to relax during the rainy periods watching TV on the bed.

We stayed at the Kildonan for a couple of nights to attend a wedding held at the hotel. The location is absolutely breathtaking, with views from the beach over to Aisla Craig and the lighthouse. As a wedding venue it was superb with the whole day running very smoothly and excellent food. However, we were disppointed with the accomodation. Our room was very small and cramped for a two-day stay. The bathroom had damp and the whole room smelled of such. The headrail was coming away from the wall and the rugs on the wooden floor were grubby. The eiderdown was grubby and the sheets and blanket arrangement led to an uncomfortable night. £95 per night was unreasonable for the room we occupied. I think we were unlucky as we saw one of the other rooms which was a much better standard in terms of space and decoration.

We spent 6 nights ay the Kildonan - accompanied by our daughter, son in law and 1.5 year old grandson who were there for the first weekend. The manager and staff could not have been more helpful.
The food was beautiful both in the bar and in the dining room. The scenery, location, service and accomodation left nothing to complain about even the weather was good. The car park could have been better - but is everything perfect in this life?

A most enoyable stay and would certaintly go back.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
