“My wedding there amazing!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2013

I had my wedding there on 25th may 2013 and I have to say I was a little worried leading up to wedding as manager laid back, but.....
What an amazing day, could not ask for any more, all my guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to, food was amazing, the set up of wedding amazing, staff good, and the weather was sunny sunny. So go try it there and don't Listen to the bad Reviews as everyone knows I am very fussy and if I love it,so anyone should.
Amazing!!!!big thank u kildonan :-)

Stayed at the Kildonan Hotel for one night. We had a good room on the first floor with great sea view. Nice and friendly staff. Pub and restaurant areas would do good with a renovation, kind of outdated decorations, and unpolished windows. Good food and good service however.
Maybe a bit overpriced, but overall a good stay.

Beautiful location and outdoor areas.

We visited the hotel for the afternoon for lunch and drinks as i used to come here as a child and have really fond memories of the place.

In reality, the hotel has lost all character and soul and the staff were openly quite rude and had argeements in from of the guests about who hadnt stocked the bar and who 'didnt know what they were doing'. there was a wedding on and they were all clearly out of their depth and if it had been my wedding - i'd have demanded a refund.

I remember a lovely, cosy family run hotel with lots of atmosphere and laughter, this is not what exists now and its a real shame.

I stayed in this hotel with my partner and wee dog in February this year, using a Groupon voucher. We had used the hotel before and found the location stunning and the accommodation, clean and of a good standard, if a little over priced, so were delighted to see and buy the discount voucher. Again the accommodation was clean and very comfortable, though having paid an upgrade for a superior room, were disappointed to have to leave our room and peer over some bushes to gain a sea view . The staff were mostly lovely and we paid a further upgrade to have breakfast served in our room. On being presented with the bill on leaving I was shocked to find a separate charge for the cereal course of our breakfast , something which had not happened when we had stayed and did not usea voucher, this coupled with a service charge that was added to our meal in the restaurant, was not explained nor were we forewarned. I asked the person on reception for an explanation and given a shrug of the shoulders in response and, as I was at the mercy of public transport, I left and emailed the hotel when I arrived home. The manager wrote explaining that she had to make money somehow and we had got an excellent deal, I replied that I was not objecting to the charges made but rather the lack of warning given regarding them. I have never received a reply. It is such a shame, the hotel is beautifully situated, welcoming and with a good standard of accommodation, however, additional charging appearing on bills is unsettling and can spoil what could have been a lovely experience .

Room Tip: Make sure your aware of " hidden charging"

we stayed on a 2 day break at the kildonan hotel. paid extra £10 per night for up grade to superior room, it is definitely worth it. we had good view of sea from our balcony. watched seals & sea otters.
breakfast was good as was the evening meal. breakfast was included & evening meal was good & reasonably priced.
staff very efficient & friendly.
would recommend.

Room Tip: pay extra for upgraded rooms, upstairs at side & front of hotel over looking sea.

We had an Itison voucher for a 2 night stay, In room 3 which had a great view of the seashore and wildlife which included Otters and Seals which was wonderful to see and we loved it,The room was well maintained and clean but the carpet had seen some uncaring guests in the past, The on suite was also clean and well presented a few bits of mildew here and there but nothing that we all have to deal with at home, Staff were friendly and very helpful at all times. The meals were of a high standerd and very enjoyable
The Hotel has a great show case dining area which is all glass fronted and this had been neglected with windows uncleaned for what should have been a great experience looking out to the seafront was a bit dissapointing depending on where you`re seating was, Also dont expect the bar to be open till 12-00 midnight as if the bar is empty it will close and trying to find someone to serve you a drink well needle in a haystack comes to mind and all my wife wanted was a hot chocolate but in the current fianacial climate this is understandable as this was early May but at the same time voucher or not the times were stated of the open hours of the bar but was not the case, But I will still recommend this Hotel to anyone as it is a pleasant stay and great veiws of the wildlife

Room Tip: Room 3 looked out to the seafront with great views

My husband and I stayed two nights in April, courtesy of Groupon.
First impressions (which were mainly accurate I would say!) - fantastic views, nice hotel, pleasant staff overall. Being able to take our dog was a major bonus.
We ate in the hotel both nights, the food was tasty (perhaps a bit overpriced for what it was), but the service wasn't particularly attentive.
The Kildonan area is at the far south of the island, which is v picturesque but not full of amenities. I think if we went back to Arran, we'd opt to stay closer to Brodick.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
