Great views, comfortable cosy room with underfloor heating. The meals were excellent and the chef made up a very nice vegetarian meal just for us. The staff were great and very helpful. Whats not to like.

Room Tip: we upgraded to a suite, overlooking Ailsa Craig

We stayed here on a Groupon deal with an upgraded room and an extra night. The room was modern with a lounge area and an amazing view from the covered balcony. The room however needed some T.L.C and was also a little grubby, the bath had lost it's surface and there was evidence of damp. the underfloor heating was wonderfull but the floor tiles covering it had been laid crookedly and my husband cut his foot on one of them. The cooked breakfast was not good, we felt it had been cooked many hours before and kept warm. We chose the continental breakfast on subsequent days, this was much better. To add insult to injury when we went to pay our bill they tried to charge us for food we had nor eaten, we had deliberately avoided the hotel restaurant and eaten elsewhere due to the terrible breakfast. The hotel is in an idylic place and it is sad that it is not better run and maintained. We would not stay here again

Spacious rooms, friendly staff, well stocked bar, great food, lovely location .... excellent all round. Great hotel for a romantic break. Food is great, served in a lovely setting and quite inexpensive considering the rural location.

I booked this Hotel as a Christmas present for my Husband. It was fantastic value for money due to a Groupon deal. The hotel is set on the shore front. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is generally peaceful and relaxing. Our room was directly above the bar and it did get a bit noisy after 9pm until around midnight. But thanks to the very comfortable bed this didn't disturb us. The food is excellant. It would be great if you could get a half board deal , the is only B&B options at the moment.

We booked the hotel via a deal and upgraded and extended our stay. We had a room overlooking the shore with a gorgeous view, the room itself was great, and although there was a large tv on the wall you spent more time looking out the window at the ever changing scenery. We enjoyed the company of the locals in the bar who made us feel very welcome, the bar staff too were great very friendly and helpful. The meal in the restaurant was superb, I had slow roasted pork belly and the some of the best venison fillet I have ever eaten, cut like butter and cooked perfectly. The dining room itself is a big room with glass on three sides and in a Scottish winter is bound to be chilly, just be prepared for that and you will enjoy the whole experience. I can't fault anything about this hotel, I loved every minute of it, the staff, the people, the food and of course the wild surroundings and scenery. I will definately be going back, I think I may have caught Arranitous!
Thank you to Ann and the team for a memorable New Year

We arrived on a crisp clear day and Paris asked if we would like to upgrade to a suite for an extra £10 per night, We said OK and when we saw the room it was fantastic. The bed area was great and the sitting area with the sofa an TV on the wall was superb. The view out of our balcony right out to sea was great. we could sit and watch the seals in the morning before we went on our walks. We decided to have a meal in the first night and lo and behold we were the only guests. The food was excellent and was a good choice. we had a starter and main course each and coffee and could not finish our main. Breakfast was good. On the second night we ate in again and we had different choice from the first night. Again too much. The soup was superb with the hot bread and the steak and ale Pie was the best and fullest I have ever had. The breakfast next morning we had the continental which consisted of hot bread, grapes, cheese, cold meats and again ample. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. The staff were great in all areas of the hotel.

Room Tip: Go for the suites the views are spectacular

My fiancee and I stayed at the hotel for two nights. The double bedroom was ok and had a brilliant view looking across to the Ailsa Craig and Pladda. The food received was tasty for breakfast and dinner, the table service was not as good as it should be. The both of us thought it was lacking in atmosphere and Local workers asking "How you are? Whats your plans?" How was your stay?" some communication. The choice of unusual loud music for breakfast was no good either. The place has so much potential maybe its better in the summer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
