We stayed at the Douglas on a 4 night midweek break and were delighted with the all round quality of both accommodation and service. The hotel has recently been renovated to a very high standard and it is obvious that great attention has been paid to detail and no cost has been spared. The grounds and gardens are still work in progress but this does not detract from the "feel good factor"
The bedroom was large, modern and comfortable and the Super Kingsize bed provided an excellent nights sleep. The shortbread was a nice touch to accompany the complimentary beverages. The large bathroom was well equipped with a powerful shower and plenty of hot water.
As we were on a DBB package we were restricted to the set dinner menu but had the option of upgrading to A la Carte. The quality of the food was excellent, and, with a couple of exceptions, was served by friendly, knowledgeable, staff. The exceptions were two of the breakfast staff who showed no awareness, forgot what we ordered and failed to keep the breakfast buffet topped up.
The wine menu, whist not extensive, was reasonably priced to suit all budgets and provided a good choice.
One constructive criticsm of the restaurant is the screening of light from the windows. If it is sunny, some diners are blinded by the glare and the only way of overcoming this is to close the full length curtains. This happened on a couple of occasions during our stay and other diners unaffected by the glare got a bit bristly that the curtains were closed. This could easily be overcome by the installation of blinds which would not have to be closed completely.
The Douglas Hotel is a welvome addition to the Arran scene and we would have no hesitation in recommending it to potential guests. We look forward to returning.

Recently stayed over at the hotel with my partner , the hotel it's self is located literally a 2 min walk from ferry terminal , we stayed in room 002 which perfect for us , though I do think there is probably larger rooms in the hotel , the room it's self was lovely and stylish we where very impressed , we have stayed in the Hilton in glasgow earlier in the year and was very disappointed and we payed a lot more for the night and did not include breakfast, so staying a the Douglas hotel was a delight. We did not have our evening meal in the hotel as the menu did not have much choice and seemed a little pricy for what they where offering, instead we went to the Arran bistro 2 mins walk enjoyed a lovely meal for £23 for two main courses. We would stayed at the hotel again for sure , although I was a little disappointed with the cooked breakfast discribed as a Scottish breakfast, included hash browns instead of the trandtional potatoes scones, hash browns in my eyes are normally included in a full English , just a small detail but hey the say all comments are welcome xx

Previously reviewed the Douglas Hotel on 12 February 2012 and entitled it “My first, but not my last stay at the Douglas!”
True to the title I've been back - and it's only got better!
Booked it using Itison vouchers and upgraded to an Executive Room (001) and a Suite(202). Both were amazing. The suite had a large balcony to the front of the hotel overlooking where the ferry came in. Trust me you will not be disappointed with 202. As I said before, the location, quality and standard of the hotel are all first class. The last time I reported the service at dinner was a tad slow, but not this time. The service, in all areas of the hotel was absolutely superb. The service at breakfast, and dinner in particular could not be faulted. Very smart, efficient, polite, hardworking and young serving staff - I say young and normally this could suggest inefficient and immature. Not in this case - however trains them up should be very proud of them. The food at breakfast and dinner was very fresh and delicious - my son felt his dinner was the best meal he'd ever eaten. Praise indeed! I cannot think of a single negative comment to make about the hotel - I look forward to break number three there in the very near future.

Room Tip: Room 202, a suite, is superb. It has a large balcony and is at the front of the hotel. Overlooks th...

We spent a lovely 2 night break here at beginning of June, unfortunately weather was wet missed the great sunshine of previous week!! however Douglas Hotel was welcoming and very handy for ferry, important as my husband has walking difficulties. our room was very large and comfortable but no view which was a pity as the views from the terrace are glorious. only downpoints no handrails in bathroom and service first morning at breakfast bit disorganized with empty buffet table for long periods and long wait for tea coffee etc and no bowls for cereal or fruit available. However on the positive the staff are friendly and helpful, and the food was enjoyable. returning in July, hopefully the weather will be better and we may have a room with a view!!

Room Tip: side view rooms limited view

After taking the ferry from the Mainland, the Douglas Hotel is almost directly across from the ferry terminal. The room we were shown was not only enourmous but was immaculate. The service was outstanding and the public areas were immaculate. This is the finest accomodation on the Isle of Arran. I wished we could have stayed longer. The food in the restaurant and bar was wonderful.

We visited in June 2013 for a 4 night break. We were delighted with the quality of all aspects of the hotel, from the decor of the public areas and bedrooms to the food and the enthusiastic, well-trained, helpful staff. The Douglas is so convenient for the ferry port and bus station, we found there was no need to take a car with us.
It was a top class and most enjoyable stay and we hope to visit again soon.
