“Great hotel with hiccup”
Reviewed March 15, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in an executive room (upgraded) we got an itison deal and overall our two day stay was great - dinner was great - if I had to give any negative comments I would say that our room was not made up on the second day although someone knocked our door at 4pm and said do you want anything ? We did highlight this to management - (not to our satisfaction) also although we had upgraded to executive room the advertised fluffy bathrobes were taken out of room because we had an itison deal! Just made us feel like we were second class customers when we were supposed to be having a relaxing break away from all our stresses! Just felt that spoilt our few days at Douglas a bit - we had came straight from another luxury hotel in Brodick and found that there was a contrast in the management/staff - would like to go back but not sure it would be our first choice - we had been do looking forward to it - we go to Arran often but this is our first time at Douglas .

Stayed here for 1night with my boyfriend as part of a weekend trip to the island. We arrived earlier that normal check in,so when i phoned the hotel they very kindly prioritised our room so we could get in early. Hotel is very tastfully decorated and we got a beautiful spacious room with a sea view. Ate in the bistro - food and cocktails were fabulous.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning in the future.

Stayed in Auchrannie one night and The Douglas the second night and The Douglas wins hands down. Room was beautifully finished and a good size and dinner in the bistro was delicious. The only draw back was The Douglas doesn't have a gym and pool but otherwise a perfect hotel with friendly staff.

Spent two nights (8/9 March) at this hotel situated minutes away from the ferry terminal at Brodick. Hotel overlooks the sea and has been recently refurbished. Our room (205) was located to the rear/side of the building and had two windows overlooking both the surrounding countryside and the sea. The room was large and very comfortable, en-suite had a massive bath - if you have short legs you'll have a bit of a step over the edge of the bath. The bed was kingsize. Colour scheme - greys - very tasteful. Complementary tea/coffee and shortbread in room, as was bottle of Prosecco - part of "It is On Deal" along with two cocktails in the bar.

We ate in the hotel on the first night, food was excellent and staff very friendly.

Breakfast was served by staff - we had the full Scottish breakfast both mornings. Also available continental breakfast, cereal, toast etc. Made a pleasent change having breakfast freshly cookedrather than from a hot buffet.

On departure we asked about any forthcoming deals - there will be some - details will be on the website shortly.

All in all a great value deal, we enjoyed our stay at the Douglas, the staff were all friendly and welcoming. We will definitely go back - keeoing an eye out for the deals coming up.

An ideal location close to the ferry terminal and car hire. A lovely building which is superbly modernised in contempory style creating an atmoshere for a relaxing holiday. The staff were courteous and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, The food in the Bistro was excellent and tables were well spaced. If you want a sea view an early booking is essential but the supererior room was very well equipped although the bed was a little firm. The ensuite bathroom was of the highest standard imaginable. Arran is superb for walkers and remains one of our favourite UK locations

Stayed here for a night on an itison deal while on an island hopping trip. The hotel is newly refurbished and tastefully done. Our room was very spacious with a top quality bathroom situated at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately, this room was above the bistro which played music till 930pm which ruined an otherwise peaceful stay. We did find it a bit strange that although all rooms have bathrobes as standard, they were removed for itison guests which seems a bit petty. We ate in the bar at night and the food was very good but barman was aloof and not very welcoming. However, enjoyed our stay and would come back but to a room at front of hotel(hopefully with bathrobes provided).

Room Tip: go for rooms at front of hotel
