Take the left path from car park, to have the steepest section going downhill and a more gradual return ascent.

We started at Blackwaterfoot and parked in the hotel carpark. Headed out along and through the golf course.Nice gentle walk then takes you round an old fort and the amazing clifs. There is a rougher path below the cliffs but no good for small kids or people not steady on their feet.
Then followed the coastline to the caves. Looking back where we came you get the most amazing views of the cliffs, which you miss out on if you take the less scenic walk from the forestry car park through the woods. So I would recomend heading to the caves from Blackwater foot.
The caves are an amazing thing to behold, hard to imagine the water level at this height instead of the one a few meters below. Highly recommend it if you are in Arran this is a must walk.
The best thing about starting where we did, is you end up back at the hotel and a cold beer is just the ticket after a walk :)

Started from the very full carpark along what starts off as a gentle woodland walk, it gets a bit steeper towards the coastal caves. The caves are fascinating and if you take a torch you can walk deep into the darkness behind the early Christian carvings. The walk back starts steeply but the path gradually improves. It is quite strenuous in places so good footwear is needed and on the h0t day that we had drinking water is recommended.

We visited here last months and did the circular walk from the forestry commission car park taking the path to the left. We walked quite briskly as we were dodging rain showers, dawdled a while on the beach near the caves and then made it back to the car in about an hour and a half total. Well worth the lovely views across the water.

We walked there from the golf course, through head high bracken, past the fairy like cove of cairns, thinking the caves might be quite nice. They were amazing! Well worth the walk!
