As you sit in one of the rooms of the old boarding house, seated with approximately twelve other people, you are served family style. The food is Southern comfort food, yet varied enough to appeal to visitors from other places. Miss Bobo's was an authentic boarding house that served workers from the nearby Jack Daniels. It is located right in town, amid period buildings.

We had lunch here in this beautiful white painted old boarding house before our tour of the Jack Daniels Distillery in town. The mid day meals are served at 11 a.m and 1 pm. We were lucky to get reservations for 11 and were told to arrive 30 minutes early so we would not lose our reservation. Guests can browse through rooms that contain assorted handcrafts, soaps, candles, and similar items for sale. As those rooms became crowded with people browsing the goods, we moved to seats in the parlor, which was very pleasant. Get a seat right away if you want to wait here because the parlor fills quickly. When the name of our dining room was announced, we were escorted to an upstairs dining room. The meal of turkey and stuffing with gravy, sweet potato casserole seasoned with Jack Daniels whiskey, green beans southern style, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, cranberry relish, and rolls was served family style. The three people in our party were seated with a family of five locals. Our hostess was a native of the area and told us about the history of the house and the area. While the food was good, I could have gotten much the same at any other restaurant. However, the ambience and intimacy of the setting made the dining at Miss Mary BoBo's special and that was something I could not have gotten at most other restaurants.

Great home cooked southern food served family style. The company was excellent and the house is beautiful. Prices were a little high and don't expect to eat unless you made reservations. Very popular with tourist and locals alike.

As yankees the wife and I visit Lynchburg and toured the JD distillery shortly before Christmas. We then had lunch at Miss Mary Bobo's on he recommendation of our tour guide.
It was a great decision. All rooms in the house are converted to dining rooms with tables for about 10 and a hostess in each. They only serve lunch but believe me it is bigger than any dinner. Because it was near Christmas they served us typical southern Christmas dinner, sliced roast chicken, okra, sweet potato, string beans, and much more. And the hostesss regales you with tales of the old south.
Afterward we toured the original town jail which was interesting.
