Good for: Special occasions, Business meetings, Local cuisine, Romantic
Dining options: Dinner, Reservations
Description: The elegant modern dining room has a relaxed welcoming atmosphere. Short hand-written menus change frequently, as they are based on local seasonal ingredients. A concise interesting choice ensures that each dish is prepared individually for each customer, allowing for great attention to detail. The restaurant is an ideal place to book for a private party to celebrate a special occasion, birthday, anniversary or an intimate wedding. Set tasting menus are tailor-made to the diners choice. The restaurant can accommodate special dietary requirements easily, as everything is home-made - just let us know in advance when you book. For example, we bake our own gluten-free bread for coeliacs. If you require a vegetarian menu or have any other dietary requirements, please let us know when booking. The wine list offers an interesting reasonably priced selection, hand selected affordable quality wines to compliment the food.

Fife's old County Town, Cupar, has seen significant changes over the years and is once again having a heart transplant when it comes to traffic management. However putting the works aside it is well worth venturing up one of the many Closes which hide a few pubs and eating establishments from the gaze of those on the main streets.

One of our favourite restaurants (for special occasions) is Ostlers Close, where Amanda and her staff make you most welcome, whilst husband Jimmy is ensconced in the kitchen making the best use of local produce... even picking the mushrooms himself (along with Amanda).

Whilst one can have the supper menu (more than adequate) there is always the larger choice of the full menu which boasts some regular favourites along with a constant variety. I am sure if my waist line and wallet could survive, there is more than sufficient variety to eat here every day.

Look out of the Supper menu and some of the special gourmet events (get on their mailing list for advance notification) to get some great food at good value for money. However the restaurant is quite small and to ensure quality Jimmy and Amanda prefer not to have large bookings at the same time, preferring to stagger bookings to ensure Chef can commit the required time and effort to give everyone the attention one might expect.

It is a family favourite and for us, it is local having the added benefit one can partake of "liquid refreshment" knowing the car is parked at home and only a short walk home is required.

I have eaten at Ostler's Close 3 times and not once have I been disappointed. I can easily see why they have a mention in the Michelin Guide. The food is of top quality, all locally sourced and cooked to perfection. The service is friendly and attentive. They are also extremely accommodating and have bent over backwards to help - I have relatives who are fussy difficult eaters and the Grahams managed to satisfy their demanding requirements and then some.
I really can't recommend Ostler's Close enough.

We found this restaurant online we rang an hour earlier on a Friday and lucklily for us they had one table. It is hidden in a cozy little alley. A very nice lady served us and took the time to chat to all of the guests. The food came out quickly on a busy night we had a free starter of sweet potato and parmesan soup it was absolutely delicious, We had the beef and lamb for a main course with seasonable vegetables potato mash and some other kind of potato, it was amazingly good every last bite. The dessert was really good as well. The only problems I had were that it was extremely warm in there and I couldn't wait to go out for air. And the decor was a little outdated but never the less really cozy and fresh flowers on the table. The plumbing in the bathroom was bad and it smelled. Aside from that it was totally worth it and i would love to go back. The owners are obviously very passionate about good food and service.

We were recommended this restaurant by our host at the bed and breakfast we stayed at.We had read some of the reviews on tripadvisor and the excellent ones are so true but the ones commenting on small portion sizes are so wrong .We had a fabulous meal comprising of a starter and a fantastic main course I was so full but managed a little room for the vanilla panacotta {my favourite dessert } and dessert wine.The service was excellent and very personal and the food was not only of an extremely high standard but also pipping hot can't wait to return to both this restaurant and also the fabulous bed and breakfast {Ferrymuir Stables}

We frequent Ostlers for all our special occasions as well as in the company of visiting friends who totally agree, without fail, that it is unique and ranks amongst their top restaurant of choice. We once took visiting French friends from Paris who recommended the restaurant to Michelin. Not long afterwards a coveted Michelin star was awarded. Jimmy and Amanda work tirelessly to seek out the best of local produce, often adding a twist of Mediterranean to the cuisine. They both go that extra mile to ensure personal attention and service. Jimmy is a very accomplished chef. Amanda's desserts are amazing, always delicious and, for example, on Saturday evening we experienced a wonderfully seasonal damson plum crumble tart with a touch of fabulously tongue teasing damson sorbet. It is an entirely different gourmet experience compared to other restaurants in the town. Cupar is extremely lucky to have such a gem of a restaurant. Wherever we go in the world we use the standards of Ostlers as our measure of quality and it has not been surpassed to date.
