Only stayed one night and found service to be first class. Delicious food, with a breakfast of the highest quality. The room was warm and comfortable and spotless (bottles of water were a nice touch). The locals in the bar were welcoming and friendly. Graham the owner, and his staff could not have been more helpful. Will certainly return for a longer stay.

I have stayed at this hotel for the past ten years with my golfing buddies and have never had an unpleasant experience. We enjoy great breakfasts, comfortable, clean rooms, polite and friendly staff and home cooked dinners in the evenign before retiring to the public bar. The bar is a gem itself with good old fashioned hospitality, wooden beams and as it is in the centre it is the village pub to many locals. We have had many laughs and become friendly with the regulars in the bar over the years.

I reccommend the hotel to many of my golfing friends, who have all had great golfing breaks here. There are not many places where no matter what you ask of the staff it is never a problem. I am looking forward to returning in September and of course I shall be re booking for the next year on the day that i leave as always.

This is not a 5 star hotel, nor does it charge 5 star hotel prices,
It is an old, traditional Scottish small hotel and I suspect will always be so.
What is important is the fact that it has very friendly, helpful staff who accommodate in every way, the food was excellent, both breakfasts and evening meals. Athough it is situated on the main street of the very picturesque fishing village of Crail, we were amazed at how quiet it was.
The room we occupied was spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained, piping hot water for both bath or shower, coffee/tea making facilities, really cosy.
The only complaint was that our stay wasn't long enough- hope to return.

We popped in at the Golf for an early dinner, as we were passing through Crail, returning to Edinburgh. We chose to sit outside as the it was a lovely evening. The menu itself was impressive, but the food was completely underwhelming and overpriced.

I knew the meal was going to be disappointing as soon as the starters arrived. The "Brie in Breadcrumbs" was lukewarm and most of it was still solid. the breadcrumbs were in sold sheets and looked more like batter. My wife had "homemade" mackeral pate which was ok, but it looked like both starters had been bought in and i suspect mine was straight out the freezer. The side salads were good and fresh.

The "Medley of prawns", which my wife had, was supposed to consist of various different types of prawns. What she received was a plate of prawns that had been deep fried, so that any subtlety was lost. All prawns appeared to be in batter and half of them were scampi! My battered fish had a thick black hair embedded in the batter, which i had to prise out before starting. At least i know the hair was there before the frying commenced, so any germs would have been killed instantly.

The service was also poor. One of the waitresses was nice, but the other had a face like our presence offended her. We had to walk through the hotel to order at the bar, then had to go back inside to find the waitress to ask for the bill, which seemed like a supreme effort on her part.

Two courses for two cost £30, which, given the quality of the food was was overpriced. We couldve paid the same for a nice fresh, healthy meal at the much more welcoming Ship Inn in Elie. No tip was left as the waitresses only delivered the "food".

Stayed there for one night. The reception was rather off hand. The keys were handed over but no mention of facilities or breakfast times.
The rooms were fine but I am afraid the showers were not. There was mould inside the shower cubicle and the shower curtainswere also mouldy. None of us used the showers. In our bathroom the towel rail was hanging off the wall and the hot water tap seemed to have a mind of its own
When we arrived the restaurant seemed very busy so we though we would have a meal. I would like to say it was good, but alas the fish was dry, the steak pie was barely warm and the chips were horrible
Everytime we walked past the resident's lounge a "chef" was sprawled in front of the tv.
We went for breakfast the next morning which wasn't too bad but the person serving us looked as though he had just got out of bed
We returned to the resident's lounge to read the papers ( the chef was gone) but there was a dirty plate and cup lying on the table
The only good thing about it was the bar area which had a coal fire and was very welcoming
Would I return ? No

We stayed one night and retired to bed at 11pm. At 6am the fire alarm went off and 8 bleary guests tipped out on the pavement. After 5-10 minutes we realised no staff had been on the premises. After 10 more minutes we rang the police and the fire brigade arrived 45 minutes after the alarm. They asked who was inside-we did not know!! Luckily it was a false alarm, but no-one had told any of us that there were no staff present overnight. The owner later said it should be linked to a call out and asked why no one had phoned him, as his number was in a folder in a drawer in the room. There was no phone in our room! Formal complaint made to Fire Service. Nice food, check on your safety!!!

Thank you for your comments. This incident was indeed disturbing and was brought about by a fault between our fire alarm system and the control centre. All procedures have now been adapted and upgraded.
