Pebbles Cottage is a lovely holiday home from which to explore the East Neuk of Fife. Right on the Fife Coastal Path - easy walking to Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans and Crail.
Wine and shortbread greeted us as a welcome gift.
The house on our arrival was fresh and bright and the bedrooms prepared with crisp linen and white towels.
The summer house is reached by many steps however well worth the climb - my 86 year old mother in law managed just taking her time. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting there enjoying the fabulous views either first thing in the morning with a cup of tea or later on with a glass of wine.
A couple of evenings were slightly cooler and we relaxed in front of the log burning fire in the living area which quickly heated up the room.
Our Golden Retriever was with us and we had no problem eating out in dog friendly places whilst exploring - would recommend the Haven in Cellardyke, the Boathouse in Anstruther, the Smokehouse in Pittenweem and the Ship Inn in Elie.
Communication with Catherine the owner was always friendly with promt responses and I would happily recommend this rental home.
Lovely house just past Cellardyke Harbour and right on the Fife Coastal Path. Bedrooms and bathrooms spotlessly clean on arrival. Would be good if another couple of comfy seats could be added in kitchen/living area if space allows as only 2 x 2-seaters just now. One tiny complaint that the windows on ground and 1st floor are currently paint-locked so don't open, but should be easily fixed. Great terraced garden with fantastic views and easy street parking outside property. Happy to return to Pebbles Cottage or recommend to friends.
Cottage was nice enough and had good points but there were a lot of negative points which stopped me from giving a higher score.
It's in a nice peaceful area with beautiful views from the summer house at the top of the garden but be prepared to climb many steps to get there. If you don't want to climb so far there are other 2 nice decking areas to sit and enjoy the quiet peaceful atmosphere. Cottage is well equipped with all you need. We were left a nice welcoming gift which was a nice touch by Catherine.
All bedrooms are of good size and are nice and bright. Unfortunately the 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor have windows that don't open which meant the bedrooms were far too stuffy because we couldn't get any air in. This affected our sleep as it was so stuffy.
Only 4 chairs in living room and there were 5 of us there. Although we knew this at time of booking, I found it strange as the cottage sleeps 6. Granted there are 6 chairs around the kitchen table but they are hard and very uncomfortable and not suitable to sit on for long. Not to keen on the stone floor in living and kitchen area because it makes the cottage feel cold. Might be better if there was even a rug down in the sofa area.
No tv in living room but Catherine was good enough to take 1 from the bedroom to the living room but unfortunately the reception was extremely poor and could not get a picture apart from a couple of channels and the picture was breaking up all the time.
Internet is of poor quality and runs very slow. If anyone is going who uses EE as their network there is no signal at all in the cottage and in order to get a signal you have to go up all the steps to the very top of the garden ( this is not Catherine's fault at all, and the whole area down Anstruther way has poor service with EE).
The fan in the bathroom doesn't work and therefore after showers the whole bathroom is soaking and the water runs down the walls and the bathroom is left with a damp feeling for most of the day.
The overall cleanliness of the cottage was questionable and we had to do a bit of cleaning when we arrived. This again would not be Catherine's fault as she employs a cleaner. We were told entry was 4pm and recieved a call from the cleaner just after 1pm to say the cottage was ready. It was great to get earlier entry but it might of been better if the cleaner had taken a bit longer to clean rather than rush it to give guests early entry.
The board games in the cottage are a good idea, the weather was poor when we were there and we played the games every evening.
Location is great, close to the sea and just a 10/15 minute walk into Anstruther where there are some lovely cafe's, restaurants and pubs. The cottage has been decorated to a very high standard and the rooms have more than enough space in them to accommodate up to 6 people. The only thing I would say is that there's no clothes hanging space even just put a rail into the rooms. At the top of the house there is a bedroom with a free standing bath and toilet which is very spacious so if your first into the house, I would definitely recommend getting up there and laying your claim on it. The decking area is a wee sun trap and has been very nicely done as has the garden with its sun room and spectacular views across Cellardyke and Anstruther. There was a bottle of bubbly and a box of shortbread left for us which was a lovely touch. Would go back in a heartbeat!
Really enjoyed our stay in this cottage. The cottage had everything we needed. It had a great "rain" shower and a wine fridge. The owner was very helpful and provided us with lots of useful information before arriving. They also left us a bottle of prosecco and shortbread which was a nice touch. The cottage was only a 15 walk to Anstruther and close to Crail and Pittenweem too. The cottage was decorated to a modern standard throughout with 3 good sized bedrooms and a nice patio area out the back. The only thing we would have liked would have been a TV in lounge but we were so busy exploring the surrounding area that it didn't really matter. Great stay had by all.
I booked this cottage for myself, husband and teenage sons (and dog) after looking at several in the area.
The cottage is named Pebbles Cottage, but unfortunately the name is not anywhere outside.
After reading previous reviews I was shallowly looking forward to our welcome gift which others had allued to. (Having rented several cottages in the past and receiving homemade cakes and the like). Unfortunately there was nothing there. No matter, we unpacked and looked forward to settling in and enjoying an evening together. Again unfortunately I had not appreciated that although there are TVs in all bedrooms there is NOT one in the living room. After a text exchange I was told I should've known this and we could remove one from one of the bedrooms.
The views from the top of garden are amazing, and the cottage has been well refurbished, but the reason I have only given average rating is the following;
*no TV in living room.
*not enough seats in living room for the number of beds - i.e. Only 2 two seater sofas, despite the cottage sleeping 6. We were only 4 but it meant we couldn't spread out.
*stone floor in living room had no rug, which meant it was very cold under foot.
My son left his fire stick in the cottage and I contacted to ask for it to be posted back. I have to pay £8.40 - which included payment to the local - before it would be posted. Bearing I mind the charge paid, this has not sat easy with me.
Lovely cottage but a few things stopped it be excellent.
5 of us stayed at Pebbles Cottage during the Easter holidays and what a great experience. From the moment we booked, the owners couldn't be more helpful and having told them that my elderly parents would be with us, they went out their way to make things easier for them. The 'cottage' itself is a 3 storey house, beautifully appointed with every amenity you could want. The décor is bright and fresh and beds are very comfortable. Our little boy loved the rainfall shower. As others have said, there is no TV in the living area but plenty of books and board games. We played Monopoly for the first time in years! The garden which leads up to a summer house is the star of the show and we were lucky enough with the weather to be able to sit up there and enjoy views to the Isle of May and beyond. The property is located at the 'far end' of Cellardyke and is a pleasant 10-15 min walk to the centre of Anstruther. A minute's walk in the other direction takes you to a small childrens play area and the coastal path to Crail and surrounding area. I can thoroughly recommend Pebbles Cottage as a great place to stay. Whether you choose to stay put and enjoy the house, or use it as a base to explore the East Neuk, you will most definitely not be disappointed. I am sure we will be back!
