We sat In for our lunch and all had different things. We did enjoy our lunch and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a big queue fir take out by the time we left so be warned. They also have an ice cream counter and we had tablet ice cream and fundge ice cream later walking along the front -delicious.

The fame of this chippie means that queues seem to be inevitable but they do try to minimise the wait. When we were there a waitress came down the queue, taking orders and relaying them to the counter so when we arrived there our order was ready to go

Fresh and crispy, really popular so expect to queue - all cooked to order. We ate ours on the water front.

After encountering the rather embarrassing ordering situation (having to shout over people in front of us in the queue), we hoped the fish and chips would live up to the reputation of this popular takeaway. Quite simply put, they didn't.

On opening the cartons (which don't actually shut), we could see we had been given a small skinny fish and just a handful of chips. The poor fish had been cooked within an inch of it's life. The presentation of the takeaway was further hampered with the addition of a tiny 'bonus' scrappy bit of fish, presumably offered to customers in an attempt to make up for the poor excuse for a fish which sat underneath it.

The chips tasted of oil or fat which had been over-used and I've tasted better frozen chips.

A word of warning to the owners; buying cheap fish and cutting production costs may make short term commercial sense, but it will ruin your business in the long term. Complacency leads to competition. We noted customers enjoying higher quality fish and chips just 100 meters or so from this establishment.

At this point what I will say is that we had a takeaway from here in 2009, and it was outstanding, like the title of this review states, what a difference 5 years make.

We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday evening. It was really busy because of its popularity. We waited about 1/2 hour and then we were ushered to our seats. The fish and chips were really fantastic and the staff were very efficient and friendly. Would definitely recommend to my friends and relatives. 10/10
