“Captain's room has plenty of character”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

Only stayed for one cool windy night, lots of character in the wood panelled Captain's room. Not a huge room but very comfortable, if you don't mind 3 flights of stairs it's worth it for the unique experience. Breakfast selection and quality was very good. With 8 rooms it's larger than the average BnB, but breakfast service was very good.

Room Tip: the wood panelled Captain's room is unique, a bit of fun. Not a huge room but very comfortable...

Made the mistake of only booking one night at The Spindrift at the end of a touring holiday of the Highlands. It really is a welcoming and friendly place and we would have liked to have spent more time there. Our room was well appointed, the bed very comforable, and we enjoyed a pleasant view across the fields from our window.
The breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of main meal options together with fresh fruit, cereals and porridge. The only down side is the very limited parking facilities which can involve some shuttling back and forth to extricate ones car however it worked fine during our stay and we would certainly visit The Spindrift again.

My husband and I stayed for one night, complete with our dog. On arrival we were shown to a lovely room, room 1.
Beautiful bedding with a lovely view over the fields. We had our own spacious bathroom next door and it was ideal.
We noticed that we could have a bed for the dog which was provided immediately.
The standard of accommodation, the beautiful house with original features, the amazing breakfast, aaah, the breakfast. As a Scot, I know my porridge. In fact I have it every morning. The porridge at the Spindrift was so nice, complete with freshly chopped banana..mmmmm!
The scottish breakfast was superbly cooked and presented on beautiful dishes.
We have stayed in many hotels across the world and this visit ranks very high.
We will definitely stay here again and would like to say a big thank you for a lovely stay in Anstruther. If you want to stay somewhere with your dog, this is a must!

Not being IT savvy, and given their experience, my parents asakeed if I could post this review for them. My mum and dad passed Spindrift on the way from Anstruther and they were desperate to find somewhere to stay for the night. Mum thought the house looked lovely from the outside and they were delighted that they stopped - in fact - they ended up staying for 3 nights (would have been longer but it was booked up). The room was large and comfortable, the owner was lovely, friendly and provided an excellent service and the breakfast was fantastic. They were also impressed by the fact that you could get an evening meal there too (although they ate elsewhere during their stay but said the choice was excellent). They can't stop talking about it and now I'm thinking of booking myself and my partner in next year! They also feel that Spindrift should be rated as a 5 star establishment given that it was head and shoulders above a 4 star B & B they stayed at on the same trip. I have no doubt if they are down that way they will be back again themselves.

Excellent room, with all we'd expected. On main road (but we knew that). Staff all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good (kippers excellent). Room kept spotless. We ate one night at the hotel: fantastic herring, and very good hot smoked salmon. We'd definitely recommend The Spindrift, but:
- it would be good to have Pittenweem oatcakes for breakfast on request, not just for sale;
- bacon tasted slightly of kipper;
- orange marmalade (not just three-fruit) might be offered, particualyas it came from Dundee!
- teapot in our room not emptied one night.

Very nice small hotel, would compare equally with other similar nice venues if if were not for truly incredible food both for breakfast or dinner on the evening the hostess offers one! A good meal requires two basic ingredients: talent, and there is plenty of it there and very good ingredients, and you'll only find that on your plate. Everything is locally procured from the best places!!

Only the wine list could see some improvement; it is fine but lacks a bit of imagination. Some very affordable and very good wine can nowadays be found, even in Scotland, which offer more character than a good, but slightly boring, chardonnay or sauvignon-blanc (here I cannot remember what it was, which is the point...)

Finally, one last comment, relevant for most places in the UK, it is high-time to remove wall to wall carpeting and show the nice wood floor or the tiles which have been waiting for for too long for showtime!

Ken was very accomodating in organising another B&B for us. the food was great we had an evening meal which christine cooked and it was just lovley. the room was fantastic, plenty of space and very clean. we had a nice lounge that we could relax in with our evening coffee. Will definitely be going back. x
