Musselburgh is small in comaprison to other racecourses (Ayr) but has a plentiful selection of bars and there are decent viewing areas of the course and parade ring. Seems like they have spent quite a bit of money on the front area recently and provides plenty space for all the punters. For getting there I would recommend the courtesy bus to/from Wallyford station from which it is only 10mins on the train to Edinburgh. A few winners also makes the day go better!

If you're looking for something different to do on a sunny day , and it is one in which there is an event, don't miss this. They run flat and also (moderate) jumps days. The course is fairly large but there is an enormous screen to let you see the runners when they are mere specks on the horizon. There are several cafes and a decent restaurant, but the indoor betting area gets very crowded. By contrast the paddock rarely seemed to get crowded, although there was a marked difference between the sunny days and a snowy one.
Some days seem to attract children more, and there is an enormous number of activities around, especially of the bouncy castle/ fairground type, plus lots of hotdog stalls etc. Evening racing seems to be much more adult orientated, not surprisingly.

Went up for the Edinburgh Cup, being from down south the course was a lot smaller than our local courses. Great food at good prices, decent beer too. Great for families as there is lots of places to sit and picnic.
