We visited the Mill and Doocot on a bit of a whim earlier today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The mill building is delightful and quaint - like a crooked Scottish oast house. A mill has been on this site since at least 1599 and it is still powered today by the river, complete with mill laid, mill pond, sluice gates and water-wheel. All the internal machinery is powered by the wheel and in working order.
It is in a lovely spot about 1/2 mile from East Linton and close to the A1. There is a walk across the river through fields to a 16th century Doocot, which gives a pleasant 1 mile walk (there and back) or an approx 2 mile walk if going in a more roundabout route.
We had a guided tour of the Mill which was fascinating - a real insight into times gone by and the ingenuity of our fore-fathers.
Well worth a short detour off the A1 if travelling to/from Edinburgh up the east coast.
