“Lunch at House of Darrach”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

Our adult family had an outing for lunch today to House of Darrach at Gartocharn. We all chose the Carvery option, but were so disappointed to find that all the vegetables, self-served, were barely warm. The meat, too, was cool, so by the time we were mid-way through our course, the vegetables were totally cold, as was the jug of gravy. When we were asked if we were enjoying our meal, we took the opportunity to point out the problem, but were assured that the temperature of the food is regularly checked! Again when paying, we mentioned that the food was not nearly hot enough and how disappointed we were with what could have been rather special fare.

Lovely restaurant with really nice ambience. The food is excellent and freshly prepared including the salads. Good service and a quality product. I am a regular visitor and haven't been disappointed yet.

“Delicious food in an elegant setting and a great wee to shop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

Lunched here with friends recently and enjoyed our meal tremendously - 2 of us had the carvery comprising of a big plate full of hot and delicious turkey and ham and all the trimmings. Delicious and great value for money. My wife had the Finnan Haddock fish pie having seen it recommended on this site and she assures me it was one of the best fish pies she's eaten - full of smoked haddock and creamy cheesy mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables.

Cozy seating in front of the fire in the restaurant, brightly decorated ready for Christmas. Clean, bright, modern and elegant and surprisingly busy for a Tuesday lunchtime - clearly has a good reputation and nice to see the place being supported. Lovely wee shop with some beautiful gifts from food and cookware, to books, jewellery, clothing and toys.

The staff in the restaurant and the shop were polite, professional and courteous; happy to help and nothing too much bother. We ended up staying all afternoon, did some Christmas shopping in the shop and then finished off with cake and coffee back in the restaurant.

A very pleasant way to spend a November afternoon and very happy to recommend.

“Terriffic in every respect, highly recommended.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

We went here for quiet birthday lunch and were not disappointed. I had never been here before but heard great things about it and I'm pleased to say we were not disappointed.
Walking through the gift shop area sets the scene for the quality of the place, everything seemed to be of such a high standard.
First thing that strikes you is that the restaurant decor is so clean and bright. The staff were very attentive and efficient, regularly checking everything was okay without being obtrusive.
The homemade soup was delicious, served with warm bread and as a previous review stated the smoked Finnan Haddock fish pie was perfect, lots of tasty fish, with a good portion of potato and cheese. All four of us were very pleased with the quality of food, portion size and excellent service. Another pleasing aspect of this restaurant is that you could have a light lunch of soup and sandwich, a really good carvery for under £10 or a full three course meal if you so choose. I would certainly recommend a visit here and I already look forward to returning. Surprisingly delightful experience.

“A lovely addition to the menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2012

Myself and two friends had lunch, we tried the new "carvery" - it was excellent. We all had the "small" plate option; which was more than enough for us. The meat was was cooked and the vegetables were fresh and crunchy. I have been telling all my friends.
