“Fantastic accomodation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

We stayed for a week in August 2012 with our 4 children. The accomodation was fantastic, spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. The children were over whelmed by the games room and would have quite happily spent the week at the cottage, however we had other ideas. Pamela and Ian are very friendly and accomodating and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return for another holiday as also very well situation to visit surrounding tourist attractions. Due to the location being quite remote it was incredibly relaxing and the fact we had two cars with us there was plenty of parking available.

Room Tip: We stayed in the stables the largest of the three cottages.

We enjoyed two weeks staying at Magheramore Courtyard with some of the best weather Northern Ireland had to offer this year. We stayed at the Stables and it was the perfect retreat after a wonderful summer day at Downhill Beach or a daytrip to one of the many tourist attractions of Northern Ireland. Our Children liked to see the milking of the cows (many greetings to Patrick) and the walks starting from the farm allow beautiful sights of the surrounding landscape.

The appartment is definitely five star standard and Ian and Pamela make you feel welcome. The complimentary morning newspaper was really appreciated although we have to admit that we had never heard of Katie Taylor before our holidays.

We will definitely come back again!

We have been to many self catering cottages, this really has to be one of the best! One of the first priorities we look for in a cottage is an open fire, wow what a fire!,its huge and we were supplied with huge logs as well. Please note the central heating is more than ample, but we turned it off the whole time we were there,we were blessed with good weather....but still couldnt resist lighting that enormous fire late in the evening. We stayed in shepards nook cottage the smallest of the three and I have to say was a little anxious before our trip it might be little too compact but really the photos on their website have been distorted to try to get as much of the room in as possible and indeed this little cottage had ample room for myself husband and 17 year old daughter. The two bedrooms both have ensuite the upstairs one my daughter claimed as it had a bath with over shower, she likes a bath. and there was constant hot water! In the downstairs bedroom we had a good sized shower cublicle in our ensuite. The games room is fantastic but as i say we were lucky with the weather and had no need of it,enjoying instead the farm walk up the 'wetlane' to the top of the braeface..fantastic views! The farms dairy cows are very friendly and the many tourist leaflets were very useful. On arrival the fridge was stocked with milk and there was tea, coffee, sugar and packet of biscuits which was very welcome. The washing machine was also very handy and there is also a dishwasher for those who do alot of cooking..we mostly ate out and had alovely meal in dungiven castle(sunday lunch) , a whopper of a fry in the 'Pantry' cafe and very yummy burger, pasty and chips from JJ's chippie. The cottages are less than 20 miles from Derry,Benone strand, coleraine/portrush and we also went to Springhill the national trust house near magherafelt and Leslie hill open farm in Ballymoney. Easy travelling to all areas. The photographs of the other reviewer are spot on, the lovely lemon bedlinen and country feel of the cottage was very relaxing, fresh and clean.

These sumptuously appointed cottages are a real find. They are situated in the most beautiful farmland imaginable, yet only a short drive from almost any Ulster destination. We moved in with only our skimpy Ryanair carry-on allowance, but lacked for nothing. The well-stocked bookshelves, board games, wi-fi and game room would keep any family busy, even during the inevitable rainy patch. With the option of real fires to supplement the cosy central heating, the cottage was as warm as the welcome from our hosts, Ian and Pamela Buchanan. We were in Dungiven on a genealogical mission, so regretfully didn't have enough spare hours to indulge in the advertised farm walk - the farm has been in Ian's family for over 400 years!

Ian's deep local knowledge proved invaluable - once learning our surnames he knew every local we should meet, and kindly provided phone numbers and introductions. And at the end of each busy day we were grateful for the well designed and stocked kitchen to prepare great quick meals. The 'green' emphasis (recycling instructions were carefully set out, energy was supplied from on on-site wind turbine, and guests encouraged to conserve water) was very welcome. The comfortable beds and en-suite facilities ensured a great night's rest. Having found this place, I'd never think of staying anywhere else!

Pamela was a wonderful host, making sure if we had any problems to talk to her, she lives across the yard. We used two of the cottages for seven people as we were attending a big family reunion. When we arrived the cottages were warm, the fire set to light, plenty of wood and coal available, tea, coffee, biscuits and milk already waiting. Facilities are excellent, including the games room for childrens/adults entertainment on rainy days. The log fires are wonderful and make the place very cosy and welcoming. We had the Dairy..the middle cottage.. this one caters for disabled people and has good access on ground level. You do need a car and good map to get around, but parking is no trouble outside the accommodation.

The cottage which we stayed in was (The Stable)
I can honestly say that the kitchen was the best equiped of any self catering accomodation I have ever had.
The log fire was immense and although we only lit it once due to the weather being quite warm there was ample logs and coal should you want to light it every day.

The couryard has a very well equiped games room which my family took great pleasure in using complete with pool table, air hockey, table football and table tennis, There was also a play room for younger children and some DVD's and CD's for loan.

Ian and Pamela Buchannen who own the farm were the nicest kindest couple, and Ian even offered to take my husband to the local for a pint, or several of the black stuff! Although the cottages are on a working farm there was very little smell of the countryside, if you know what I mean! and although the cows are milked at 5am they disturbed my family very little.

We had never been to Northern Ireland before, and the location was perfect for visiting the Giants Causeway, Bushmills and Belfast.
The countryside around the cottages was beautiful, especially as the heather was in full bloom and the rolling hills were swathed in purple!

  • Liked — cosy cottages great log fire
  • Disliked — slight smell of cows
